So I THOUGHT I was set on just biting the bullet and getting the Stoptech 380x32 BBK in the front and Stoptech Sport rotors in the rear with Stoptech pads and SS lines all around. And before everyone jumps in and tells me how great the BBK is I do know that but I'm not prepared to dump that much money. I don't track my car but it does seen frequent hard driving in the canyons here in CA. I've now read so many brake posts that I think I'm even more confused now. I THINK i've narrowed it down to a few options unless anyone here can advise me here otherwise. Again...I don't track my car (MAYBE I will do A track day in the future but it won't be a frequent thing) but since I am in need of brakes I thought I'd upgrade. Besides the $$$$$ BBK what is the logical next step down. Something that is more than just for looks and provides a step up from OEM setup with regards to performance (fade, weight, etc)
First...no matter what I'm doing SS lines all around and better fluid. My main questions are what rotors/pads to get. Was hoping to stay with a slotted design. I think i've narrowed it down to:
1. Stoptech slotted rotors front and rear (OEM sized) with Stoptech street pads. My concern is are they really better than OEM as they are still one piece? Will I see any performance gains vs OEM?
2. Girodisc slotted 2pc rotors in OEM size (front), and I guess Stoptech slotted rear as it looks like Girodisc doesn't make rears for our car, with Stoptech street pads. Link to the Girodisc are here...
http://www.girodisc.com/Girodisc-Front-Slotted-2pc-Rotor-Set-for-Audi-B8-S4S5_p_6604.html
The ECS 2pc kits look tempting too but again, I would like to focus on performance first. I could care less about the looks. Are the ECS rotors more for looks or are they a quality rotor for HARD frequent driving?
I've also considered the Girodisc front rotors with the Q5 brembo caliper. So many options I've just confused myself even more. [>_<] HELP!!!! [>_<]

You also have JHM for a slotted oem sized lightweight 2-piece option. I'm running those on all four corners, they are great for the street.

I would suggest you to wait until someone sells an used bbk. Or a least get the Q5 calipers + 2-piece rotors. The single piston calipers make no sense on a car this heavy and fast.

Ahh yes. Forgot about those from JHM. Going to call Girodisc today and see if they make rears for the S4 but the JHM may be a good option.

Any issues with those? Rattling etc.? I ordered Girodiscs on the 23rd and they took my paypal money but I have not heard anything back on shipping and no one is picking up the phone. I know it's the holidays but I am not happy with running a business in that manner and will probably be getting my money back and going elsewhere.

no issues, they are oem smooth and quiet, I'd buy again and recommend for a daily driver.

I have Girodisc in the front and JHM in the back. The Girodisc are better quality.

Did you just order the front rotors from Girodisc? I know that's all that's listed on their site but I was hoping they made a set for the rear too. I called them today but no answer.....probably closed until the new year.

Yeah, fronts only. Figured they are closed until New Year now but they gave no notice, I need to get my brakes done, and they took my money without shipping product. JHM guys were very helpful today so I ordered. I have read the Giro's are better quality but will gamble that the JHMs will work for my 99% street driving. Personal experience recommendation helps too. Thanks will13k7 for the info and pics.

Here's another solid option ;
Q5 caliper / SS lines / Quality fluid Motul I guess or ATE
Pad ; I want to re-order the OEM pad, I'm not willing to try out akebono and be like.. mewwww where's my initial bite ? So most likely brembo oem pad.
Rotor ; I too wanted something like Girodisc or apikol, but damn ... 800$ just for front.. + shipping + currency + 15% tax ( for us, canadian) thats crazy money!
So I'm going brembo Xtra rotor ( at this moment, only available in europe)

FYI: Finally heard back from Girodisc. Typical issues with small shops and their internet services. Always comes down to communication or lack thereof. Mike offered to work with me to make me happy but I declined on principal of "Ship product before taking money." Appreciate he called and made an effort though. Getting discs for this car has been a nightmare for some reason. ESC sent me the wrong right side disc TWICE before I gave up on them. Happy with their Q5 caliper kit though.

Hi there.
Just to chime in: girodisc makes rear 2 pieces rotors. I dont know why they did not put it on their Web site.
Mail Mike at girodisc. I am sure he will help you. Very good customer service.
Cheers

In response to your question - Here is my suggestion for best bang for the buck.......
Girodisc 2 piece slotted rotors for front and rear
Motul or Endless high temp brake fluid
Endless MX 72 brake-pads on all 4 corners. - The Endless pads are the closet thing to a Unicorn pad you will find. They are a higher temp pad that provides awesome feel and stopping power on the street and will perform very well on occasional track days. They create very little dust and do not squeal if they are bedded in correctly.
This is not an inexpensive setup but it will out perform the OEM and the Q5 setup by a significant margin. If you start tracking the car more and and your skills start to overwhelm this setup the next step s a BBK.

Had the Stoptech slotted front and rear for the 1st 1 year when I had the car, on OE calipers. They look good, but are almost as heavy as stock. No discernible performance advantage.
Then switched to the Brembo 4 pots for the front from the Q5 3.0T, but retaining the one-piece StopTechs. More progressive, but I felt that the OE calipers had more initial bite. But they were really heavy for a one pot, and with the change, steering felt better with less kickback.
So am on the JHM rotors now, front and back. Together with the KW V3s tuned properly, turn in is much sharper, and there is again a marginal improvement where there's even less kickback. But hard to tell if this was more a function of the V3s or the JHMs.
For context, I had the 6 pot Stoptechs on 3 piece 355mm rotors on my A6 C6. Better than what I have now, but not by much on the street. I don't track the car, so am not upgrading to the full Stoptech setup.

I'm very interested in seeing how you like this setup. This is exactly the route that I'm thinking about going...

+1. I'm just waiting for my brakes to need to be replaced so I can justify those ECS to myself (and the CFO)
