Wow this brake squeal is driving me crazy! So I researched a little and found that the compound audi uses on our stock pads cause the brakes to be very noisy in cold temps. Brakes still have some left in them but I want to replace due to the terrible noise. Is akebono the way to go? Do I have to do the front and rears? Responses are greatly appreciated.

everyone will probably recommend akebono or hawk pads . . . it's an echo chamber in here when it comes to brake pads but i'm not willing to sacrifice the oem bite just yet - i think i may go w/ a totally different set up at somepoint in the future w/ a bbk. my shit sounds like a freight train as well as does everyones due to some unknown compound. or do we know the compound culprit?

Thanks. I'll sacrifice the bite for some quiet pads. I try not to slam on the brakes anyway and I don't track the car. Anything that has decent stopping power and preferably minimal amount of brake dust would suffice.

Main reason I switched to akebonos was brake dust , could care less of that initial bite everyone on this forum talks about I'm not Chris Harris .

Lots of topics on this [:)] I went with Akebonos, there isnt as much initial bite but they still brake strongly. No squeal and I haven't noticed any dust (but I switched to gunmetal color wheels so...)

I can't blame you, the oem brake dust is going to be the death of me.

I think of the OEM brake dust as a free and temporary gunmetal color treatment!

that's actually been my exact mentality this past month since it's so cold. ^

I just replaced mine and went with EBC Red Stuff pads, as recommended by ECS Tuning. The info on them seemed to be on point with what I was looking for. So far I don't have many miles on them... They don't have as much initial bite as the stock pads, but still seem very capable. They advertise low dust, so I'm excited about that part. FWIW, ECS recommended these pads over the equivalent Hawk's and Akebono's, I can't say if they have a reason for that, but this is my first time replacing the pads on this car so I didn't have any real reason to not try them out. Akebono's obviously have a lot of support from users on this forum, maybe I like going against the grain or something... But no real reason for me to steer clear of Akebono's either though.

Lol thanks. Do you remember the cost of the front and rear pads? I'm probably gonna get them off tire rack.

Thanks I have gloss black wheels but the brake dust is still noticeable up close. Did you change your front and rear pads?
