Hello B8 S4 forum. I'm cross posting this from the Q5 forum in the hopes that someone may have some first-hand experience or knowledge on fitting the heat shield in a 2013 Q5 3.0t, whether yes it does fit and I'm horribly deficient in my skills on this for some reason, or no, it doesn't fit and XYZ is needed/required.

I've made two good efforts on two different days and am just not able to get it in there. The heat shield is prevented from seating down in the two holes because the front of it rubs against plastic behind the grille and air funnel/snorkel that remains after airbox removal. CTS Turbo's website says that the system works on my vehicle without any note regarding fitment or required modification of anything. Both CTS Turbo's and the vendor's website I purchased from show it installed in a SQ5, which I don't believe would be any different than mine from a fitment point of view.

Thanks in advance for anyone's help that can be offered!

This is what it looks like installed in a SQ5. It's a tight ass fit. I don't know if you're installing it properly, but you may need to take both the primary intake box/tube out as well as the front radiator shroud and scoop off to get good clearance to install the shield properly. Maybe the instructions don't say that, but if you're trying to wedge it in there and it won't fit because of that, take those out, mount the shield and then put the scoop and shroud back in afterwards. Sometimes the instructions to install something aren't exact and it's easier to fit the thing on an S4 than a Q5 due to the room in there, so maybe that's it. Install the shield first and then the intake tube for the new intake, not the other way around as that'll make it even more impossible to install properly.

Thanks I'll try to remove a bit more of the car and see if that helps. All instructions and install videos I saw don't even touch on that possibility. Appreciate the response.

You don't need to remove the front cowl. Just remove the primary air box and the Intake tube + helmholtz resonator. You transfer the grommets from the bottom of air box and install them on the bolts used as stand offs for the heat shield.

Also, the front cover/front portion of the intake scoop has some flex to it. You should be able to insert the flat (front portion) of the heat shield in between the plastics clips without removing the scoop.

FWIW, I have the CTS intake for my B8.5 S4 and it literally takes < 10mins to swap it in or convert back to stock airbox which i did for my initial 5k visit. Lastly, when installing the intake tube to the couplers, make sure it's flush against the TB lip within the silicone coupler. Then use your socket and tighten the clamp. This will ensure position is rigid and your intake tube will not rub against your hard pipe like some members who did not install it this way have complained about.

TL;DR Ironically, you can use the Roc Euro or the ECS tuning install .pdf as it was more detailed than the CTS video.
