So I had my windshield replaced after getting a nasty crack but now I can see the glue or something where the rear view mirror goes. I would go back and ask them to fix it but the shop is far. Anyone know if I'm able to remove the rear view mirror, clean it up and reattach? My OCD is driving me crazy. Thanks in advance http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161208/cb981e26196d6b0f25e43b586a1e6377.jpg

Take it back. There's a specific step of instructions that need to be followed with the sensor attachment on the new glass. My guess is that the tech that installed the windshield didn't follow them precisely.

Looks like you need a rain sensor gel pad. The gel detects how fast to move the wipers.

I'm guessing they used aftermarket glass? There are known issue with that besides reattaching the rain sensor properly. I don't know if this applies to the S4 as well, but my insurance confirmed recently that there is no "like" aftermarket glass due to the acoustic properties, the tinting at the top and the rain sensor. I've had my windshield replaced twice on my RS5 so far, both times with OEM Acoustic glass as was installed from the factory. The factory glass comes with the correct replacement parts for the rain sensor and the correct fitting as well as the original acoustic properties. The label on the original glass will tell if you had acoustic glass.

Went through my dealer. They ordered the glass and took it to their glass shop

Lots of useful windshield-related information at this thread (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/554949-Windshield-replacement-good-to-know-info/). Here's a relevant excerpt from that thread: "... for those who may be wondering what the actually replacement procedure looks like, here's an article from Glass Magazine describing the 37 detailed and illustrated steps on a B8 S4 (http://glassmagazine.com/article/auto/2011-audi-s4-106964)."

For the gel pack installation, see step #24 in that Glass Magazine article.

Mine looked like that right after they replaced my windshield, cleared up and went back to normal within a few days

The step (#24) in that link above were pretty explicit about the temp being 60° or above, warming up the gel and then getting out any bubbles or gaps in the seal. Perhaps yours set in the sun after the installation and that contributed to it clearing up after the install.

Good point, I had it done on a mid 80s summer day.

So it appears the rain sensor wasn't put back on and trashed. So now my rain sensors calibration is probably screwed up and I need to buy a new one along with the holder for it. Great...

Who the hell installed your glass??? THEY should be responsible for that, not you. I had my windshield replaced by Safelite a few months ago and the rain sensor wasn't working like it was supposed to after install and had a bunch of bubbles in it. The fixed it zero hassle.

ECS Tuning has them here (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/rain-sensor-gel-pad/8u0955609/) for $52. The rain sensor itself is also available from ECS for $230 here (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/rain-sensor/8k0955559c/). Hope you just need the gel pad!

WHen mine was replaced it came with the rain sensor glue pad pre-installed, they just had to transfer the sensor over. It looked exactly the same as before after they got done, your glass guys screwed it up
