View Full Version : Car feels like 10X better. . . .

So I raised my car up two perches in the front. I have adjustable bilsteins(grooved by AWE tuning). The car feels 10X better. I forgot how nice the stock ride was. She feels smooth and bumps are not a problem. I was raising it for the winter but now I think I"ll just keep it this way for the summer too. I'll post before and after pics of the difference in the height later today. Anybody else feel me on this?

I'm thinking about doing it.

mine feels a little better raised up - but come summer - I'll be dropping it back down. I'm afraid of heights.

.. want to do it for the winter too...I guess go all the way up on the front and the back..

I'd suggest it. My car sits about 1.25" lower that the stock sport suspension. the ride is MUCH better. I went over a bump by house that I usually have to slow down to 15 MPh, at 40 MPH. It's great. Car still looks good and I'll have much less headaches...especially with the upcoming winter.

I would just go up mainly on the front. You have grooved shocks too right?

I just noticed it's all santorin A4's posting(cept' for marked). funny.[:D]

It definitely will. The law of physics is on your side.

well..the back already 'appears' to sit lower than the front..so I think i'm just gonna go all the way up in the back as well.. there are 3 grooves in back and 4 in front I think? im all the way down on both ends.

did you yank the suspension to raise yours or do it on the car?

So many of you use those grooved units! Who has the best price that you know of on grooved Bilsteins for 5/98 quattro?

Neuspeed states "grooved" $115 front each $135 each rear, AWE $449 set + $50 (25+25) for the grooves, so about the same, anyone has sale to beat these prices? I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to lower my car!

I went with AWE. You're not gooing to get a price much cheaper than what they offer. Unless you go used.

Really doesn't look like much of a change. The more I see the bronze on blue, the more I like it.

It's just the lighting. The wheels are gray.

You're right. It isn't much of a difference when you look at it, but it feels 10X better.

Oh, I thought they were bronze. But I guess that makes sense, considering in your sig they look grey.

yea. doesnt look like much of a change..

are you guys getting alignments after every time you change from winter to summer mode? becuase i dont like paying for tires!

haha

the bentley says you don't need an alignment after changing the struts. minor ride height changes don't change too much. i've had alignments checked at stock sport, dumped on coilovers, and halfway between. other than camber nothing changed much.

effective toe didn't change?

My Sport Bilsteins are stiff on a cold 29 degree morning.

onemoremile

a bit but it was within the acceptable tolerances. its not like the techs strive to hit the nominal numbers anyway. anything within the "green zone" is good enough for them.

when dumped on coilovers it was the worst. they couldn't measure pushed toe and couldn't get in there to make changes. i got a printout and a bill for 40 bucks.

i will be putting my H&R sport springs w/ Grooved Bilsteins on this spring.

How much gap is between the tire and fender? Assuming most grooved guys are going one perch down front and back. I kind of wanted my wheel even with the fender...but not sure that will happen with sports springs....but i don't want my tires to rub on the fender when making a turn either. so what kind of gap does H&R Sports and Bilstein Grooved get ya?
