View Full Version : Door handles frozen?

First real cold morning here.... 22 degrees.
My door handles lifted perfectly, but I could tell the latch wasn't opening correctly.

3 of the doors did not open but luckily one did. All the doors worked flawless from the inside so the doors weren't frozen shut.

Should I clean/lube the latches without taking it all apart? I'm guessing thats what the issue is.

Oh yeah the point of this was to ask if I should use WD-40 or white lithium grease, if it matters.

white lithium, wd40 is a solvent. it will remove whatever grease is in there to begin with.

or a silicone spray grease

can I do wd-40 to clean then white lithium to grease?

If your goal is to clean, I'd use some CRC-Brake cleaner. It will dry w/o a residue.

Next time they freeze, just whip it out and provide some melting.

You can try to heat it up, you have a heated driver door lock if you have the cold weather package. Just lift the handle for like 20 seconds and it show unfreeze it all.

like jay says. just pee on it. should take care of any ice or freezing.. dont worry about the pee on the handle. after all, that will also freeze after a while..

IIRC the winter package only warms up the lock portion(where you insert keys). I have never used the feature because I use remote unlock.
