Yes. I don't think there are any limitation for the 2016 models but someone else who has the CAN cable may want to chime in. I have the HEX-NET 10 VIN to be future proof for 2017 models and beyond.

I use the basic cable version VCDS License with HEX-USB+CAN Interface $349.00, which works fine on my 2016 S6, also used it on my 2011 S4.

There was a recent free ROSS-TECH firmware update for my Ross-Tech cable which automatically downloaded and updated the cable (when updating the software). Odd that the webpage says it does not work for some of the recent 2016 models, maybe that is what the firmware update was about?

Looking at the Ross-Tech Software update history, the recent 16.8, Aug 1, 2016 update had the firmware update for the HEX+CAN Interface & support for 2016 and early 2017 models.
