New MMI Software Update

So went to the dealer because I was having GPS location issues and they said I was a few versions behind which is what may have been causing the issues. I was previously on K0814 which I thought was the latest but they upgraded me to K0942. Anyone else have this update and notice a difference?

Here is what they updated me to:

Software version:
HN+_US_AU3G_K0942_3

Navigation database version:
8R0060884AM NAR 5.6.5

Does anyone know what the latest maps version is as well?

You were only one revision behind using 814, 942 came out about 6 months ago. Can't remember what the latest maps are.

No charge since it's still under warranty and I had a legitimate reason for having GPS issues. So far GPS is working but they said if I'm still having issues, it may be a bad antenna.

No new features, just some bug fixes. If yours works fine then don't worry about it.

I second this. Didn't update my nav since the S4 is a weekend fun car and not used for long trips or the DD. But philip did help update my firmware, was very quick with replies and VERY helpful. My car is still under warranty but I didn't want to mess going into the dealership for something as easy as updating the firmware.

Latest maps for NAR are: 8R0 060 884 DQ which are 2016/2017 edition.
K0942_3 was also released for Europe/RoW. There are some minor improvements in security and on C7 plattform the issue that the display does not come out sometimes is fixed.
It will definitely not fix any GPS location problems.

IMHO, the maps and the Google images are ok. Nothing spectacular. This is coming from a MMI 3G+ '16 owner. I'm more of a magnetic vent iPhone 6 mount + Waze kind of guy.

Well its standard question and difficult to answer. Its really individual.
The whole point of updating map is to have new roads, neighborhoods, intersections, POIs - up-to-date. (especially if you live/work/drive in new developments and do not want to drive in the fields)
Graphics stay the same.. Certain amount of 3D buildings content in major city centers though...

its easy:
If you use the in car navigation a lot - it definteily makes sense.
If you use a "magnetic vent iPhone 6 mount + Waze /GOOGLE" - I assume you do not really care what kind of maps you have! :)

"vwblackb5": Keep in mind that"nekky" does NOT have GOOGLE map - because he is 2012 year. This means he is MMI 3G HIGH HW, meaning he can rely only on map database - no external source of information (no SD card slot either).

Another point to consider:
What is the point to have GOOGLE MAPS overlay if you can't NAVIGATE using the GOOGLE maps? (THe navigation planning is purely based on actual map database)
THis means that even if you see the street on google map but not on the MMI map - MMI will never plan a route via that new road - as it simple is not aware of it...

Yes, if updating your MMI is not a hassle i.e dealer appointment, not free, potential TD1 (if tuned) then by all means get the latest and greatest [emoji106]

IIRC, MMI app allows you to push destinations from google account to your MMI if connected 3G, which is a nice feature. But yea, Waze is pretty awesome [emoji108]

Lance, you are mixing map database and software: part number you've mentioned is map database itself (which is not released yet).
You talk about latest software (K0942) where there is an issue/bug with "Google Earth overlay not loading" after update to this soft. (no connection to map database itself - which loads fine)

Pierre accurately commented there is a TSB to fix the issue. Dealer should be aware of the TSB and apply it after soft update...

You can update it to K0133 or so but the UI will stay the same. Anyway you can swap your mainunit agaist a MMI 3G Plus from a facelift model and get the new UI.

You'll have to get CP (Component Protection) removed when you swap to the newer MMI unit. I'm in the process of doing this myself. You just have to find the right dealer to do the protection removal, or it isn't going to happen.

I have a CPO 2013 S4 that I picked up several months ago. At the dealer, I have had my MMI software updated, and then hardware (ATT&T modem) updated, and then finally a complete radio swap to resolve issues (slow, GPS issue, Google Earth overlay, etc.).
I now have the most updated software and maps. It took several visits and plenty of back and forth, ultimately they charged me my CPO deductible ($85 - $30 discount for my trouble = $55), but worth it.

I didn't have to ask nicely, just friendly and confident that they would fix the issues I was having with MMI, GPS and 3G reception. Describing the symptoms of patchy/slow MMI is better than just asking for an upgrade, in my opinion. The reason it took so many visits is that they replaced the entire system piecemeal as they escalated fixing my issues one component at a time: Reflash of MMI, then swapping the modem for the newer one (AT&T) and when that was still having issues they just replaced the entire radio system.

If you take a look further it doesn’t seem like any of it is left out. Press the “Audi” button and reverts back to the traditional MMI. I’m assuming it’s an add on system that works with the MMI “brain” which can speak to the new screen and can switch between the OS. (Android / MMI)

So what do you guys make of this. My car is only 2 weeks out of warranty (only 46,600 miles but over 4 yrs) and recently the Google Maps wouldn't work. The Nav would initially load up with Google but I'd quickly get a message asking me if I wanted to use the standard map setting. If I answer no I see the Google maps loading. It only loads to GOOG.... the LE never comes. Heres a picture.

Problem ended up being that I downloaded the files from MEGA as a ZIP file. When it opened in WinRAR, it looked just like it was supposed to, but would not properly extract. I re-downloaded the files using the standard download and all is working correctly now.

You have 2014 map and 2013 sw, latest is 942 or 960, you gain nothing with new soft(you cant see with eyes:)), but it is common and recommended do update both and it will not affect the price:)

For the newest SW (not maps) update, has anyone noticed a quicker BT link compared to the previous version?? I'm on HN+_US_AU3G_K0715_2 Sometimes it takes over a minute for my cell to link up and be able to play music. I had a rental a few weeks ago and it would link/play almost immediately. It's not the phone either. I've used different phones and it still takes a while.

Are you able to hear turn-by-turn directions from Google Maps and Waze to your MMI over bluetooth from your phone? I am on the same software version as you and it doesn't work for me unless I do the following:

Google Maps - Disable 'Play voice over bluetooth'
Waze - Enable 'Play sound to phone speakers'

My phone is on Android Pie.

As of last summer it was K0942. Not sure if there have been any updates since.

EDIT: Looks like they most recently shipped with P0942 (same as K0942), so I believe that is the latest.

Yes, if updating your MMI is not a hassle i.e dealer appointment, not free, potential TD1 (if tuned) then by all means get the latest and greatest [emoji106]

IIRC, MMI app allows you to push destinations from google account to your MMI if connected 3G, which is a nice feature. But yea, Waze is pretty awesome [emoji108]
