I've never seen a thread with a definitive info on this. I'm trying to determine when I could be riding a time bomb. I don't feel like dropping some cash and an afternoon on an install just yet, but once it goes, I know the pain is far worse.

I was thinking it would be as simple as:

Year of Car
Mileage
SC pulley - stock or Stage 2

Yeah haha. Was so random, no precursor to the event. Just... "ha, eat shit guy"

Now that I got a tune, I need to start saving up for a larger crank pulley.

How likely is this to fail..? I am going uni stage2+ and was wondering if it would make sense to just buy a JHM lightweight crank pulley. The one that retains the stock diameter size. I just would rather not deal with something like that failing as it could take out other components with it. Trying to get an idea as I emailed John@Unitronic and he stated many of his S4 clients have not had his crank pulley fail neither did his.

It's not a for sure failure, but I would just go ahead and do it if the car's gonna be in the service positon.

Do you know what I would replace it with? Not sure what I should get if I am going Uni stage 2. I would assume get the JHM lightweight crank pulley?

Thx for your reply.

135k Miles
Stage 2+ since 65k

Did all belts and tensioners at 125k. Everything was running fine. Side note, stage 1 at 55k miles and stage 2+ at 65k miles. Did it while I was in there as preventative.

Question to anyone who's a little more informed than I am, I was cruising on the highway when my belt disintegrated, almost immediately my temp gauge was pinned in the red. So I decided to put it in neutral for about half a mile and got off the highway. I saw the temp gauge hit about 3/4 of the way by the time I hit the light. Do you think I may have warped my heads? Last thing I need is to pull the heads and get them redecked. The whole ordeal from start to finish was maybe 3 minutes.

I think your fine as long as after you shut it off and didn’t drive it anymore. If you drive it you risk way worse damage. Get it towed. Same thing Happened to me a couple months ago less than 1 mile from my house. I shut the car off and had it towed and unloaded in my garage for $99

Thanks for the reply, I ended up getting towed back to base, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the car would start up after I put the new pulley on.
