Search Craigslist everyday for random deals. Stumbled upon a fellow selling his awe touring with resonated downpipes for a steal. The only stipulation is he needed stock exhaust and a place to do it. I met him at a friend's shop and we took care of business.
The exhaust is absolutely superb. I love exhaust on my cars but was very skeptical of my S4. I don't want too loud but I want to be able to hear it. No drone, rasp etc. The unicorn.
My Lexus had an aftermarket accessory F-sport Lexus exhaust and I was trying to find similar decibel level. Quiet when I need it, audible when I want it.
AWE nailed it. Combined with the resonated downpipes it makes the car. On the highway on cruise control, you don't even know you have an exhaust.
Mid throttle, the car has a nice pleasant hum. Roll the windows down, and go WOT. The exhaust positively sings. Sounds like a completely different car. I know you've all read it, but it really does sound exotic.
The exhaust came with 90mm diamond black tips, they fit just fine on my B8.5 rear.
If you're on the fence, buy one and don't look back.
Nice write up. Thanks for sharing. The exhaust is amazing.

How do you like the size of the 90mm tips? I'm on the fence between 90mm and 102mm. Lots of recommendations to go 102mm but I don't want it to look out of place. FWIW I have the Deval rear diffuser which I think pretty much matches OEM exhaust opening size.

All personal preference lol, I have the 90mm and I think it's perfect. 102 is over the top for me [:p]

I have 102mm with stock valance, the tips fill the entire opening of my rear valance which I don't really like. Always thinking to switch to 90mm but simply putting 90mm tips on will leave a gap between the tips. So if I had a choice I would have gone for 90mm definitely.
Just FYI the 102mm tips definitely look very aftermarket. If you want a stock-ish stealth like, go for 90 or if you want people know you have modded your car go for 102

I like the 90s. They look fine to me. The sound makes my pants tight

Hold up wait a minute. Let me get something clear: all you had to do was just pay for 4 installs and that was it????!!
What else did you have to pay/trade/do?! What does "took care of business" mean?!

I paid him $600. Put the cars side by side on lifts and swapped the exhaust myself. I am a technician by trade.
Ok cool. Thanks for clarifying.

Go with 90mm. It's classier and doesn't scream "aftermarket", yet it still "screams". [:D] [drive]

I've been on the fence between Borla and AWE and I think AWE Touring w/resonated down pipes is it. Thanks for the awesome review. Everything I want you nailed it.
Any difference in performance?

That's probably the biggest steal I've heard to date regarding aftermarket parts. Congrats OP! That's one heck of a deal.
The general consensus for years now is that the AWE touring is the best sounding exhaust for these cars. Enjoy it!

Thanks for the congratulations. It really is one of the best exhaust for a daily driver I've ever heard.
I can't comment on the power increase because it's so hot here in eastern NC, the car is just slow all the time lol.

Welcome :) Great for daily, tame when you want it to be, and intoxicating when you hit the pedal. I've never noticed power increase from exhaust anyway. The sound improvement is always the biggest thing IMO.

I've got to get an exhaust as the stock exhaust is, well, just so tame.

Nice guy. Was selling his car the following week. Liquidating anything he could asap. It also helped I did all the work for him at a shop on a lift.

I would say the same. Nice score. You aren't kidding when you say this is the perfect system for the 3L cars. sounds straight up intoxicating.
We have one of these systems left in stock chrome 102mm touring with resonated downpipes.
Thanks,
Greg

Remove all doubt. Buy one. Touring with resonated downpipes. Easier to make it louder than quieter.
