I had this error last week and it would beep at me every couple minutes or so. It went away on its own, but I still wanted to get it checked out.

So scheduled my dealer visit today and just heard back that the sensor on the circuit board for the shifter had gone out. That was as specific as they told me over voicemail. The part should be in tomorrow and they are fixing it under warranty.

Anyone else have this on a B8.5? Thanks.

Are you still under warranty?

Do you think he read the post? LOL[:D]

I had the same issue on a B8 though - sounds like a simple job but it turned out to be anything but. It requires that the transmission be dropped to access the shifter from below.

Mind sharing the mileage on the car?

Wonder if we'll start seeing more b8.5 cars with this issue too.

Do they replace it with a new, updated part? Everything I have read has shown the B8.5 to have a more reliable set up.

Not in my case. The sensor was simply replaced. At the time the car had about 38k miles.

Do you still have the car? How many miles do you have now? If you still have it, is everything running fine?

I thought mainly B8's had this issue, but guess we were wrong. Good thing it's covered by warranty

Car has 43k now. No issues after the sensor was changed. Transmission seemed less smooth now but that could be my imagination.

That looks about right. I'll compare when I get my paperwork/car back.

UPDATE: Turns out the issue is some sensor in my gear shifter, not that actual transmission. They tried just replacing a sensor in the shifter, but that did not seem to work. Now they are ordering/replacing a whole new shifter mechanism.

If it's the same as what we've seen before, it's not going to fix it. There are two drive range sensors on the shifter forks in the trans that tell the TCU what gear it's in and when those go out, the whole trans needs to come out, the case split open and the gear section taken slightly apart to get to these shifter rods/forks to replace these two small sensors. There's two I believe.

Just had the same thing. 22k miles on my 2013. They replaced a pcb on the tranny. Had to drop the whole thing. Also flushed the tranny fluid. There was a TSB and upgrade kit. Took a week to get the parts and 2 days to fix. Drove a 2017 a4 loaner for a little over a week.

That's different. If they told you they had to replace the PCB, then that's the one on the mechatronics unit. It's the usual bs with delaminated board of cables caused by the hot fluid it's sitting in. You don't have to drop the trans for this, the mech unit comes out the bottom after you take the pan off. Yes, there is a TSB for it.

UPDATE: I finally got my car back. I have posted a picture of the tech notes to see what is what, but here it is...

Any thoughts?

Very thorough tech notes. At least the tech is detail oriented which would make me feel somewhat more comfortable.
