Hey All, Time for another project![wrench] Im still building my AWM Exo car but time is really limited and im waiting to get a few parts made to start fabing the third dimension of the frame. I recently wrecked my dd and tore up the bumber and headlight, quote was 2200, insurance gave me 1300, and i figured i could fix it for about 300. I recently came across a 99 a4 1.8t 5 spd swapped rwd for 300 with a good bumper and headlights, so free car right?? I fell so. Car doesnt have a title which is why im considering it a track car. Came with a gasket set, valves, test pipe, jhm short shifter, ie manual timing tensioner, a bunch of extra coils, and three extra turbos (one with minimal shaft play, others dont spin). Body is supper clean.

List of things i need to get it running:
Vacuum Lines, Coolant lines, Wire Harness put back on, exhuast, ac compressor mounted back, interior stripped, clutch bled, intake, and a starter.

Now for the ecu, ive got one from a auto aeb, and one from a manual aeb. Im assuming all i need to do is run the manual ecu and itll work, however, id like to do my own tuning to make a little more power, ive been looking into doing it on a me7.3 ecu, but i dont believe these are me7.x, can i run my awm ecu on this car can be okay??

Also, Im not familar with the aeb, What goes here?

Will take a lot of work to run the AWM ecu.

Considering the status of the car, I'd just run the auto ecu as is. There will be tons of codes but not like it matters. I dont think the enigne will have any trouble with it.

I think this is a cool idea. For $300 why not? Better than hauling to the scrap yard

Last picture is for the block breather. Just run a hose to the ground for venting.

you can just use the manual AEB ecu and be fine, they dont have immobilizers or anything. It also takes less than 5 minutes with vagcom to make the ecu from auto to manual and vice-versa.

the AWM ecu/dbw conversion is not that hard and is worth it.

idk what the process is like in your state, but in most states, it is not that hard to get a new title issued.

I am all for your project, I like rwd b5's

Lucky ass, youre the one that was buying that car today. I messaged the seller last night about it, because I was wanting the engine to a build on. $300 was a steal just for all of the extra parts and JHM short shifter.

Do you know of a write up on the conversion?

Good surprise today when I took the wheel off to get to the starter, the Cmcar has sport suspension!

Been wo4king on it for about 3 hours and feel like I'm pretty close to being able to start it. Check the timing for interference, good. Checked the plugs, good. Checked the pistons with anew inspection camera for valve hits, good. Got the starter on, just need the signal wire. Just put the harness in and I believe it is still an auto harness as it has the d connector with the speed sensor connector.

I'm having to pull a few to many parts from my parts car for my other project, but oh well.

Hey guys, got it stripped today and the engine pretty much back together other than cooling and the bottom crankcase breather.

I need help though, I can't find the starter signal wire in the harness so I figure I just bypass it to a momentary switch. When I hit the switch it just clicks twice and then does nothing for a few minutes, when we first did it there was a big spark. What could it be????

Update time! The weekend of my last update I tried to drive it for the first time, to here this ridiculous knocking, to find out the back of the driveshaft wasn't hooked up. I got that hooked up last weekend and put some coolant in and she drove! I massive amounts of smoke but I didn't really care as it was driving (in the yard...). After I parked I found all of my coolant spilled out on the driveway. So that was my project for this weekend, found a total of 5 leaks from missing seals and clamps, and one crack. It was also missing a thermostat. It's times like these I'm glad I have 3 parts cars. I had to make a heater core bypass to fix the problem of not having a heater core and one of the plugs was cracked.

Also added a bit of exhaust from a fwd passat back to the center of the car, mad it a tiny bit quite but not enough, now to do a full system with one of my extra borlas I have laying around. Also cleaned up the wiring on the passenger side of the car, a little nervous to pull the driver side as there are probably some relays I need.

But yeah, she drives, and one wheel peels like no other.

So, I realized last night when I was packing up I pulled all the wires for my windows.... and they where down.. Great. Now to put the wires back in or run my own to switches in the center.

Also, I heard that possibly the v6 diff rear diff is somewhat locking? Any truth to this? I've got a 97 2.8 parts car. The one wheel peel thing is kinda confusing to me as I can get all 4 off my wheels on my daily to slide no problem, but again, it's a 2.8, but I didnt think there was a difference across the diffs. Other than gearing.

Nice to hear that its running and nothing is wrong with it. Still jealous of the deal you got, haha.

if you want a rear LSD you are going to have to put one in unfortunately.
