View Full Version : Does anyone have headers?

I know eurocode does headers, and I'm wondering if anyone has a set and can give some feedback.
Also if there are any other dealers that sell them. (I can seem to find any, but eurocode)

From everything I've read, headers are a waste of money at this point on this platform.

Well letting the engine breath better isn't really a waste, but bang for your buck yeah it isn't very good. I plan on doing some half mile runs this fall, and next summer so I'm working on getting her set up to run the top end out.

Does the engine have to be pulled to install?

Pretty sure they drop it, not sure on the man hours to do it.

I thought someone on here had them installed at got nothing in the 1/4, primetime? Times were better with test pipes.

The results varied. Circuit testing indicated gains, some dynos showed gains, others showed little 1/4 mile improvement.
One thing held constant which was that nobody had a tune for the headers they installed. In every other car world when you add headers you need a custom tune to fully exploit the gains. Headers could conceivably allow us to run dual pulleys or even "triple pulley" as i'll call the new double ratio crank pulley out there with a SC pulley and produce less boost (due to lower restriction) with lower IATs as would be the case with porting heads or adding cams but without custom tunes we are dead in the water.

Well the quickest Stage 2 B8 on 93 fuel on AZ is an A5 with headers, it's bloody loud... the tune might very well be custom for that setup though

EC showed some decent dyno gains on stage3 with headers. the fastest stage2 cars are not running them though.

Every little bit helps but comparing a turbo motor to a SC motor, Apples and Almonds. Look at the exhaust on these cars, little gains in HP just more sound. As people continue to push the envelope on these motors they may find a larger gain from headers. Especially if someone comes out with cams, throttle body upgrades a stage 3 that delivers, etc. At this point they are the lower hp gaining items for now.

hit the nail on the head here ... Turbo motors use exhaust to make power.. a better breathing exhaust system leads to more power... Supercharged cars use the engine to spin the supercharger to make power.. the only way you will see gains from headers is if the factory headers are restrictive to begin with which doesn't seem to be the case with the 3.0T motor. Headers are are waste of money if you're looking for performance.. however paired with AWE Exhaust it sounds amazing.

The A5 in that thread has the same 3.0TSFI SC engine as the S5/S4.
It's on an A5 3.0TFSI. I'm tying to locate the validity of it though (no offense to the owner), I can't locate a drag strip in Bejing, and I'm not sure of the timing gear/lights used and if its a sanctioned track like we have here in the states? 93 octane trapping over 120mph is uncommon (actually no one else has reached that on pump), however if this tune is a strong as it is based on the validity of the track set-up, it would be nice to hear more information on the tune.

Yea, that time caught my attention just couldn't validate the accuracy of the timing equipment. Hopefully the OP can shed some light on the track and his setup

Good point on the A5/S5 over there. In for what LOE finds on it.

I did find some info on drag strips in Beijing on google. There are tons of airstrips in the city. It's hard to find any info if you can't read Chinese. Here are some pictures of a specific race day http://www.xcar.com.cn/bbs/photo/18168212/0.htm at the "八达岭"机场 airport.
