View Full Version : Roc Euro intake reviews?

I'm considering adding a Roc Euro intake to my '13 S4. I've read mixed reviews on the product, but my main takeaway is that it provides the purest SC sound. I'm not expecting noticeable power gains from an intake swap, but wanted to get the community's perspective.

Looks like they're currently out of stock, but are running a price discount during the back order period. Has anyone around here made the swap recently?

I bought mine used from a member here. Could've been an older production as it came missing some pieces. (Either by the seller's fault or by it being an older model as I was told several revisions have taken place) overall opinion is the assembly doesn't seem to have all the details thought out. The heat shield for me kind of just sits there. It isn't bolted down or securely latched to anything it uses its surroundings to stay in place and obviously when the hood is down it snugs it down so I don't hear it jumping around when I'm driving or anything. But suffice to say, it lacks that "aaahhh, so pretty, everything fits so nicely" reaction after you install it. Which you would expect for a $300+ intake. Just didn't feel like the design was detail oriented.

Sound is the one thing that I do like. If you want to hear the supercharger this one is loud. Can't miss it. However, there are other intakes out there that still give the loud whine.

Other threads talk about the terrible customer service provided by roc euro. Lack of communication, delays in transactions etc. I won't beat that drum anymore than it has already.

For me, if I could start all over. I would just purchase one of the setups from ecstuning. I hear and see good things about the cts Intake. They look like the detail oriented attention was included in the design. Which my roc euro lacks, and in sure audibly, and performance-wise it provides very similar results.

It's a nice product, I have one on my S5 and it sounds great. Having said that, I cancelled my new order (reasons in tread linked below) and bought a CTS Turbo which seems to be the same design. I'll post more later this week when I got a chance to install it...

LMK I can do a deal on a CTS intake with some software.

The cts is a better design, just as loud, and has at least better than the completely miserable roc euro customer service.

I drove a few S4's with stock intake before purchasing my '13 that already had a roc-euro installed (guess I was lucky in that regaurd because I didn't have to deal with ordering or customer service at all). Don't have any experience with other intakes on this car beyond youtube videos and other reviews, but FWIW I love it! The fit and finish may be slightly less than desireable for those who want an OEM looking intake, but the sound is intoxicating! Definitely turns heads and makes ppl think, "what the hell is under that hood!?". In the cabin it's enough to put a smile on your face in heavy throttle, but not over bearing or annoying IMHO.

CTS or ECS, forget the Roc.

Get the CTS or ECS. I got the ECS one for $323 shipped (carbon fiber pipe) since they had a sale on all carbon fiber parts. No reason to get the Roc-Euro since others make better intakes with better customer support.

I had it and was concerned about the rubbing between the intake and heater pipe on the firewall.

Not sure how Roc Euro keeps lingering as an option after so many bad reviews and an scrupulous amount of threads with bad customer service feedback.

Needless to say my vote will be for CTS. Have had it for 2k miles and have had no issues, got it on sale too (280 shipped). Also not sure how people are experiencing rubbing with hard pipe. If you install the silicone coupler first and tighten the clamp to TBA with a 8mm socket and once tight slide the tube in flush to the TBA lip and tighten the other t bolt clamp on the coupler. This will allow you to align and keep the intake tube parallel with the hard pipe and never rub.

Also, fwiw it takes 10-15mins to switch to stock air box if going to the dealer for service.

TL;DR skip Roc Euro go with CTS [emoji106]

Sphoria: Make sure you have the stock air box because you won't pass smog in CA with an aftermarket part like the Roc or CTS (unless you know the guys who do the test...)

Oh really? I didn't think an intake would actually cause the car to fail the sniffer, just visual. And usually if your cool (and maybe slip the guy a $20 tip) they'll have really bad eyesight for your test. However, I do have the stock box and would rather save the $20 and the hassle, lol.

Yeah, when I say I've been considering one, I meant that I ordered mine over a month ago & I'm having all of the same issues that each of you describe above. I was hoping someone would be able to provide insight into whether or not a recent order shipped. I didn't realize the magnitude of the issue.

Sounds like I will be cancelling my order, hopeful I get my money back, & going with ECS or CTS.

That sucks. Sorry to hear their customer service is so poor. If the ECS or CTS (or any other intake) can be had with similar sound, better fitment, better appearance, and better response/shipping time, that's obviously the way to go. Any performance gains will be negligable accross the board. Glad mine was already on the car b/c I'm super impatient, especially when it comes to money I've already spent.

Did you try to communicate with John or did he set any unrealistic expectations? In my case, he told me one week and then did not respond to multiple messages way past that point so I cancelled for his unresponsiveness, not because I run out of patience. I really enjoy the intake on my S5 and as others have pointed out before, it's essentially just a pipe, some sheet metal and a filter so there should not be a huge difference compared to the other ones with similar, open-cone design.

My plan is to take the $20 approach as well and then revert to stock if that does not fly [:D]

He's been responsive when I call. Hasn't responded to any of my emails. I'm mainly considering cancelling since he's told me multiple times that he's planning on sending out an email to everyone who has ordered to provide an update. Apparently he's encountered an issue with the suppliers of one of his parts, at least what he told me. I have no problem waiting for a product that I ordered, but be straight-forward with me & set realistic timelines/expectations.

I have a friend who works at German Auto Parts in upstate NY & he's told me that he's working with an understaffed team & great demand. I get it, but communication could be much better. I'll probably give him another couple days to provide an update. Otherwise, I plan to bring my business elsewhere.

The Roc Euro, CTS Turbo and USP share the same open design. The ECS, Injen (with cover) and APR are closed boxes. If you want the loud supercharger whine, you need to go with an open design.

Incorrect. ECS also has an open design.

Learned something today... You are right, I was thinking of a different one. The ECS looks good, and I like the fact that they have a version with silicon inlet hose which I assume will heat up a lot less than the metal versions.

All good bro. Just put the open carbon one on. It easily is the best quality intake I have ever installed on any car. Ever.
