Has anyone tried fitting the B8 sun visors in our B7?

Lol I just don't see the point. (Sun visors)...hmm let me do a serious bad ass retrofit in b8 sunvisors... i'll get back to you on that. Meanwhile have any others questions?

Well, I do have a point. I'm changing out the plastics, domes, and sun visors to black to match my two tone seats. And while searching for sun visors I was having a hard time finding any b7 ones in black that don't have home link. I didn't really want that if it wasn't even going to be functional plus it appears the plugs aren't the same and I'll have to cut something up. So... I ran into b8 visors that don't have home link in addition to the them having the telescoping extention that makes the visor extend so it covers the area on the side window that the b7 visors cannot. Like my jetta. So actually, I do think that would be pretty badass.

And this thread was the best I could find while searching.

Just FYI HomeLink on the B8 was integrated into the sunroof control center thing. Just in case you thought this was rare, it's not. Still, the telescoping could be cool. I'd never use it since my windows are tinted dark though.

For anyone else who might be interested in this it looks like the retrofit is going to work ok. The visors are the same size and the wiring is the same as well. It's just the mount that is incompatible so I am in process of swapping and painting the mounts. I had to basically destroy my original visors though to get the mount off in one piece and destroy the mount on the b8 visors to get it off the visor and not hurt the visor. I'm currently painting my b7 mounts black to match the b8 visors and will post up some pictures when done and installed. No need to buy a new car after all to get black telescoping sun visors without home link! Just $125 for some B8 visors. And no need to paint if you're dealing with the same colors.

That's interesting because in my experience B6/7 mounts would not install and allow to function properly on the B8 visor arm... The mounting structure of the arm is slightly different between B6/7 and B8 visors hence different mounts. How did you address it in order to make them fit and work properly?

I got the mounts snapped in this morning and installed. It does appear Mr. Wrong that on the driver's side the angle of the arm is slightly different but it still works ok to me. It just seems to add a little tension when snapping it into the clip. It still blocks view and swings. Passenger side seems to not have the same tension. Only regret so far is having to paint the mounts instead of using black ones. I'll post up some pics later cause I'll have to take the time to put them on my computer and I'm about to head out for the day.

Edit: It should also be noted that the driver and passenger side mounts are not the same part number and sit at different angles. So before you attempt to snap the mounts onto the visors make sure you have them on the proper sides or you will be destroying it to get it back off.

Thanks guys. One more caveat for fitment. When the visors are flipped all the way forward they sag back down an inch or two instead of staying in place. They don't sag all the way back down though. Again, it's a trade-off I personally can live with.

looks awesome and I would kill for the sliding feature but I actually use the home link :(

Mostly from ebay. Except the auto dim mirror I bought from Axis. All these prices included shipping. For the sunroof shade handle, I wasn't willing to pay the $50+ to obtain the whole shade for me to remove the handle because I couldn't find anyone selling just the handle. So I bought flat black paint with primer for plastic and removed mine and painted it. It came out well and I do not believe you can tell it was rattle canned except for the fact it's cleaner looking than the handles. I also rattle canned the cover on my rear view mirror and you can't tell that either and also the little airbag plastic covers that go over the pillar screws. The only rattle can that didn't work out well was the mounts for the sun visor. I think because I didn't let them dry long enough before attaching them. So I'm just going to spray them again now that they're already attached and it will probably come out ok.

$115 auto dim rear view mirror
$10 x2 sun visor clips 8E0 857 562 A
$35 headliner rear trim 8E5 867 839
$125 b8 driver and passenger sun visor shade set
$50 overhead dome light 8E0 947 565
$12.99 rear dome light 8E0 947 111A
$35 Interior grab handles 8E0 857 607 / 607A / 608
$12.99 center sun visor 8D0 858 555
$25.98 B pillar left 8E0 867 243
$25.98 B pillar right 8E0 867 244

So here's the rest of the pics for the sun visors. And in case you want to see the back with the black parts as well.

First I removed the mounts from the old visors by using dykes to cut off the top of the visor shaft.

Then used dykes to cut off the mounts on the new visors. Also the plugs had to be removed from the wires to fit through the mount.

Flat black paint

Then I used a large set of pliers to snap the visor into the mount. You will want to put a towel in between the pliers and the plastic so you don't dent and scratch the new visor arms.

Here's the rear showing the black pieces used there.

Painted wire cover on rear view mirror. The cover was from my grey mirror.

The last thing I've been contemplating is wrapping the piano trim with platinum alcantara to give some two tone down lower on the doors and dash.

I know some people talked shit when you first did this post, but this is awesome. I pulled all black interior from a local junk yard and the only thing missing was a driver side visor. A dismantler has some for a B8 and if they are telescoping that is a great bonus. Sorry to bring back from the dead but A++ OP
