Buying a used 2012 B8 S4 Audi with 68k miles on it. Need some Advice

Hi Guys!

First time poster. Coming from AcuraZine to Audizine. haha

I plan on buying a 2012 B8 S4 Audi on craigslist.
68k miles
White Prestige Trim
Warranty up to 100k/5 years and 75 mile maintenance program.
Some Dinks here and there.
Scuff on the rims a little bit
$27k

Now I come from an Acura family so maintenance has never been costly for me. I currently own an Acura TSX that has over 180k miles and NEVER broke down.
So I thought it would be time to really purchase a fun car for me to drive on the side but I dont like buying new cars and thought of buying this one.
What are some things I should look forward to at this stage of the cars life and what things should I be looking at when buying it?
I just dont want to be buying a car with 68k miles to only find out I have to replace something super expensive that will set me back $5k or something like that.

2012 B8's are known to be fairly sturdy. manual or automatic?

Sounds like you have 1 service covered (75k) and ~2 years warranty left. Maybe enjoy it for a couple of years and move on?

I was on the same page. Bought a 2010 S4 Prestige White with 65K and coming from an Acura tl it is quite different.

I had replaced a number of things mainly because of maintenance (water pump,thermostat, front bearings, spark plugs, mounts, etc mainly cause it was all apart). I am at 67k now so to soon to comment.. All and all I am very happy with it and learned alot from this forum.

I am following the thread with the clutch pedal now and waiting to see what comes of it as I am wanting to by pass it before my foot has to go through the floor. I got the JHM stage 4 and light weight flywheel and steel line its nice.

That may be the plan. Do you have an idea of how much Audis depreciate? I have a feeling that once I reach the 100k mark that it will go down in value a lot? Not sure.

Good to hear. I love Acuras and my TSX. Bought a used 2004 TSX back in 2007 for about $16k. Never broke down and loved it. I drove 120k miles when I bought it for 60k. Do you have an idea on how long These Audis last?

its pretty much the luck of the draw with the dsg, the 10-12 you will see more issues. Dont think many have had issues with their DSG on 13+

Crank pulley, thermostat are across the board issues. Other than that this car is really reliable. Audi has come along way in terms of reliability. Keep the car happy and it will keep you happy.

Welcome to the forum! As others have mentioned, the crank pulley and thermostat are the more common points of failure on these cars, and some early build (2010-2012) owners have had issues with the DSG (automatic) transmissions. Overall, the B8/B8.5 Audi S4s are very reliable cars. [up]

Cool! I may have to do that. Will you be able to see if the car I want to purchase has a bad DSG and other things?

Since it seems you are not too familiar with the s4, find one with the sports diff option. Do a search for "how to tell if sports diff". You will learn a lot about it. I say it is what sets the s4 apart from an a4.

DSG stands for Direct-Shift Gearbox (or Direkt-Schalt-Getriebe if you're German).
