Noticed a little humming/whistle sound on normal acceleration. Opened my hood to check.took my engine cover off and noticed a little bit of oil around my pcv valve where the gasket meets. I have searched the symptoms but never read anything about oil around it. Audi said if is bad free replacement if is not bad $145 diagnostic fee. So????

I believe mine might be bad but I dont hear a noise coming from it. I've read that if you have your engine running and open the oil cap, if there's too much suction or no suction that your pcv valve might be bad. I'm not too sure though so don't quote me on that lol

Yeah but that is hard to diagnose because it always has a little bit of suction.

The whistle would eventually be constant, not just on acceleration.

The oil around the cap is indicative of a bad PCV.

Vag com to see if you have any lean codes. You can gamble and take it to the dealer. Otherwise its less than $50 for the valve on ECS, plus the gasket if you choose to replace it. Takes 15 min.

This is what i wanted to hear. I washed my engine 2 weeks ago left it super clean and that's how it is now so yes i'm 80% sure is the pcv. I'm at 102k miles on original one.

Just change the gasket and if you feel - the pcv as well. Inexpensive, I think even you can handle this one dalmation.

And be careful of stripping the threads.

Oh yeah i can handle changing it myself no problem. I was just asking to see if it was bad because audi will change it free and give me a loaner and i won't have to wrench lol. But nah i they said they will change the pcv and hoses. But if it wasn't bad i had to pay the diagnostic fee. What do you say bad right?

Buy one and put it in. It's pm anyway. Just the hassle of dealing with the dealer makes it not worth it. " oh we topped up your oil, 70. Bucks please"

When my cheap Chinese Vaico PCV broke after 11 months, you could hear the whistle at idle.

Cripes ECS has a deal right now, only $41 for the Audi version. Do that.

You can pop off the round cap on the PCV and inspect the diaphragm. It probably has a tear in it.

Yeah I double checked i pulled the oil cap while car running and it had major suction and the whistle sound came directly from the PCV. This thread is good because it can help other members diagnose the problem.
