Hi all,

I have quite a bit to say about this 2 year issue i've had with my A4 but I'll keep it brief. I road tripped my car 2,500 miles in 3 days. At this time the car was completely stock with all original parts. By the time I reached my destination the car had major acceleration issues. I would put my foot in it and the car would hesitate, accelerate slowly all the while plumes of black and blue smoke would come out of the exhaust. My rings are bad, the car burns a lot of oil, but that should be a linear decrease in power, not just infrequent hesitations.

I've been slowly fixing the issue, but nothing has completely dispelled it. I changed my coil packs, spark plugs, HPFP, and turbo, with some of the problem fixed. It would accelerate for one gear then the issue would repeat. After getting it diagnosed again, i found out i had a leaking injector. I replaced all 4 and now the car seems to want to accelerate all the way through with no hesitation and plumes of smoke, but after a couple of pulls the car seems to have zero power and is very laggy.

With everything possible changed minus the engine, I have a feeling that the issue may be heat soak. I remember on one of my previous diagnostics the mechanic mention a high intake temp, and now that the injectors are fixed, I can roll through a couple of gears no problem, then the car immediately gets sluggish and slow.

Firstly I'd like to hear everyones opinion on this, and secondly what I can do to resolve it. I feel like the engines getting heat soaked but I don't know from where other than the intake or intercoolers.

Thanks in advance!!

Are you going on the comment one mechanic made or have you logged things like intake air temp and/or fuel pressures?

Only on a comment that he said. The things I did know for sure when I started narrowing down the issue was that my turbo was leaking oil pretty bad, HPFP, fuel pressure was dropping and my car is burning a lot of oil. My rings are apparently bad, but that I really cant confirm as I haven't had a compression test done before my eyes in a while

I read around a little and someone posted similar symptoms and a bunch of board members chimed in about a broken valve cover. That could be another option.

Start by getting the car scanned. VAGCOM or equivalent, NOT by Autozone or the likes.

You state your rings are bad.... Has that issue been resolved?

I'll see if I can get that done.

No it has not. I took the car out for a 40 min drive last night and romped on her non-stop. She drove fine, all the way to redline so I'm assuming my issue is heat-soak. I can definitely feel the power loss though because of how bad the rings are.
