Can someone listen to this audio clip and let me know what you think is going on? It's me revving in 2nd gear upto about 5000rpm. https://goo.gl/F1E3t2
Here's a summary of my complete story: (FYI, my car is now at 105,000mi)
-50,000mi (Spring 2012): Stealership replaces PCV under a TSB (car was perfectly fine till then - good mileage, good torque) - I had no complaints but only gave it to them for a scheduled 50k service.
Mileage dropped by about 80-100mi on a full tank after that. CEL came on 40mi after the stealership worked on it. Complained to Audi of America; another stealership found nothing wrong and cleared the CEL (don't remember what the code was but I think it was an EVAP system leak). Car ran fine, just lower mileage and torque, so I let it be. The torque is so low that in first gear, while setting off from the lights, the car in the back has to hit the brakes to not hit me while I'm shifting to 2nd -> this continues to this day.
-52,000mi (Summer 2012): Replaced with new rev DV.
-65,000mi (Fall 2013): Changed cam follower (the one that came out was in really good condition but replaced it nonetheless)
-70,000mi (Spring 2014): Changed engine mounts (the turbo side had completely collapsed)
-100,000mi (Summer 2015): Jerking during heavy acceleration with intermittent misfire CELs which go away after a few miles. Engine runs fine, no change in low mileage & torque.
-101,000mi (Fall 2015): Engine starts vibrating strongly after a rather enthusiastic 20min drive through downtown LA over bumpy roads and a few rev-matched downshifts -> no CEL and no rev rise, just high vibrations. These vibrations went away after a few days of babying
I found out that I can trigger the engine vibrations by revving high as in the sound clip. Note: I do not rev high at all, my shifts are normal around 2500-3000rpm max. As before, these strong vibrations go away after a few days of simple driving. But when I trigger the vibrations, no CEL comes one.
-101,500-102,000ish (Spring 2016): 2 more intermittent CELs for misfires.
-102,000mi: After a morning start, the engine sound extremely bad - quite scary vibrations which made it pretty much undriveable past 3000rpm.
Replaced coil packs, injectors, spark plugs & did carbon cleaning. Car is back to "normal" to the post-PCV replacement state - same lower mileage & torque (I've come to accept that as "normal")
-104,500mi: Extremely weird rythmic vibration after a morning start. Started this thread: http://goo.gl/z0Uxh4 with a YouTube video: https://youtu.be/3pDA1ygBM_U.
Shop found a camshaft correlation CEL. Stealership couldn't find anything wrong. I changed the N205 valve just last night - made no difference. The valve that came out looked in almost-stock condition. Here are some pictures: http://imgur.com/a/3n8vI
So, can anyone weigh on what they think is wrong? Multiple shops & stealerships have said the PCV & crankcase breather tube are fine, although no one has opened it to take a look, no whistling sounds either. The oil cap test to check for bad PCV comes out good - no extra suction holding the cap down, I can take it off with almost no effort. Of course, the engine struggles once the cap is off, as it should.
I know this is a lot of info but it's more like a journal and an anti-build thread of sorts [:(]
Update: added coil packs to the list of items changed at 102,000mi.
