View Full Version : CV axel might be my vibration problem... Thought it was motor mounts.

Take a look at this picture. Yes, I am lowered about 25" FTG in front but I am having serious hard vibrations at WOT. It feels like the car is going to fall apart. This was even after I had the 034 street density mounts installed today. I thought my motor mounts were the problem. The picture is the driver's side. The two boots touch at the 12 o'clock position as you are looking down through the engine bay. it looks much worse in person. The passenger side boot looks nothing like the driver side. The driver side has been replaced twice already in 2 years and I think they were aftermarket and not OEM. My question is, is the boot suppose to be touching like this? It looks seriously tweaked plus when I turn the wheel back and forth, I hear a stretching sound. Very weird.

You may want to take a gander at your upper control arm's and other suspension components. They may be the culprit. I wouldn't rule out the axle, but definitely take a look around at the other parts as well.

Here's a great link you can use to diagnose axle symptoms.

It might be worth it to pop out the axle and inspect it. If the boots been needing constant changes, chances are you may have gotten debris in there and have worn away the innards

I had a bad vibration on accel, went away after I replaced/rebalanced the rear tires (blow out) and I replaced the snub mount bushing.

Thanks everyone. Found out both left and right inner cv joints are about to go. Both have moderate to significant play.
