View Full Version : Questioning lease numbers

I leased a 2016 S4 over the weekend and questioning how some of the numbers were calculated. See pic below. The salesman said no money down except for 1st month payment ($594.83) + acquisition fee ($795). I used my credit card to pay this which totaled $1395 (it's actually 1399 but for some reason they charged 1395. So, as far as I am concerned the acquisition fee is paid, however the gross cap cost is $51,176.35 which is $1644 above the agreed upon sales price of car ($49,532.35), which was 12% less msrp. This $1644 breaks down to $849 for audicare and $795 for acquisition fee. My questions are:

1. why is the acquisition fee being added to yield the gross cap cost when I already paid with my cc? This raises my monthly by $21. I emailed the finance person and they said I'm not getting charged twice. Really?

2. why is there a cap cost reduction of $1226.30? I never paid additional down. Only the acquisition and 1st monthly. Finance says the Audi $1000 loyalty is part of this and the additional $226.30 must have come from "somewhere". Huh? Why would the Audi loyalty be applied as a cap cost reduction? It's like they're using that to inflate to the total of $2395 due at signing to then subtract out the $1000 loyalty after.

Finally, my offer to the salesman was to include Audicare, meaning at no cost to me, but they've cahrged me for it. I spoke to the salesman and he said they gave me 12% off msrp and somehow justified charging me for AC. I told him that's not what my offer implied. Anyways, finance says "the sales team may have lessened the price of the car to accommodate the $849 that was added back in to cover the Audi Care". So basically, a shell game. I wanted 12% off msrp AND no cost AC.

This comes across as shady and dishonest to me. I challenged some of the numbers during signing, but didn't catch all of the numbers till I got home. I am still following up with dealer.

About the Audicare. Both time I leased a B8 S4 the dealer threw it in for free. I did not negotiate it. In doing so, the residual is 1% highrer, giving you a lower monthly payment. It is pretty much a wash(no cost) for the dealer this way.

At least they did raise the residual, but I'm paying for it.

Thinking I'll call the sales manager. This is bs.
Anyone know what my rights are if they don't make this right? Could I back out?

I think you have 72 hours to back out of an agreement?

The purchase price of the car is good, but I got audi care free and didn't pay an acquisition fee.

No acquisition fee? They claim everyone has to pay that. Damn, they are turning out to be worse than thought.
I dont have car in my possession. Dealer is dropping off this Friday. If it's 72 hrs since paperwork was signed, then today was probably last day, but if I don't even have car yet, then maybe longer?

This has left a bad taste in my mouth. This was same dealer and salesman I used 3 years ago and it will be the last.

Do you have any payments remaining from your last car? Or negative equity? That can raise cap cost..

No to both

2,395 due at signing. So they just rolled most of that into cap cost.

Yes but where's the $1226 coming from?

I'm worried about letting my salesman take my 2013 back to the dealer to see if they want to put it on their lot. If not, it gets inspected by sgs. If I raise a stink they may find some supposed wear and tear above and beyond. The car is near mint, but I don't trust them

1399+1226=2,625

Difference between the payment you made and the 2635 due at signing

Not sure I follow. The other funny thing is they charged me for reg and title and I'm from a different state. They say that was an oversight and they are sending me a check. Yeah right.

Title happens all the time. If I have a year on my registration and transfer the plates, they just send a refund automatically.

I should have clarified, I pay reg in my own state yet they wanted to charge me for it in their state

They should have registered the car for you, even out of state.

They can't. Has to be done in person at our town office.

Wondering if I should fight this and still try to get it no cost. Salesman got defensive when I challenged him.

I still feel like you got a decent deal on your car. For every 1k you spent out of pocket, you lowered your payment about $30 a month.

If they fix the double charge on acquisition, I'll let the rest go.

They charged it in the gross cap cost..

Then in the cap cost reduction, they removed it.

Yes, but the 795 acquisition fee is still being factored into my monthly despite paying for it upfront on my cc.

This happened to me too. Bought my car in MA and have to register in person in NH and they charged me MA registration fee (In NH you pay registration fee at the town office and take possession of the car there), but the finance guy caught it before I did and took it off the paperwork. I feel like this might be due to force of habit/honest mistake of whoever is writing up the paperwork. Either way it is important to scrutinize all of the numbers.

Unless I'm missing something, the math works....u paid the price u agreed upon, not more....the reg fee mistake they'll take care of, but other than that they backed $1000 out as a non-cash credit (presumably a loyalty component) to reduce your out of pocket. I don't see a doubule charging. The number at the top with audicare and acq fee make sense, and then no where below does it add those back on. you may be confused because the finance guy said u were paying ur first month up front and acq fee (and that math didnt add perfectly as u referenced because that isn't technically what youre doing ....but the math is close). ur essentially paying 1st month, plus a margin more that they take off of the total number....

btw you say u already paid it with ur CC, and at the bottom section is shows "amount to be collected in cash " $1395, which presumable u already did....
