I currently have an A7 with APR stage 1 and Roc Euro intake. The performance is a huge improvement over stock, but i'm on the fence about spending more on mods (stage 2 and exhaust) or looking seriously at upgrading to the S7.

Before I seriously consider the leap to the S, i'd like to see data on a modded A7 vs a stock S7. I can justify the investment on the A7 if it is close, but will back off if they're still worlds away. I've searched extensively for this info, but can't find anything consistent. Any feedback would be appreciated!

I haven't looked for 1/4 mile times, but have you looked on APR's site to compare their HP/TQ stats? Pretty sure they have gains on both platforms pretty well documented which might be enough give you a sense.

APR claims/shows 380whp for stage 2, and stock S7 puts around 400whp. S7 has more area under the curve and more torque. Exhaust won't give you any noticeable gains (you may be aware of that already), so if you're doing it for performance; save your money.

I feel if you're already tempted by the S7 now, that won't change. Plus, you could always tune the S7...

I was in the same shoe before deciding which one to get, at end i straight for S7.

My friends APR 2 pulley A7 ran 12.4 with 108mph

My stock S7 ran 12.2 with 112mph

this was our personal best run in the same track with similar weather conditions

A friend and forum member said he ran one of the euroode S4's which have pretty extensive mods on the same motor (stage 2 and prob headers). An equally modded S4 3.0t will always be faster then a A7 due to weight and the tranny. He said it was close but the stock S7 was edging out.

If you can afford it, get the S7 and budget for the tune. I've owned a slew of fast cars and after awhile the power starts to seem normal. The 4.0t continues to blow my socks off on a regular basis.

See you in a year after buying the S7 when you decide you want the RS7 [>_<]

Stage 2 A7 will be slower than S7 (RS7 is on another league).
now if you do a dual pulley set up, it might be very close call to quarter mile. (one member here in C7 forum had dual pulley setup, not sure if he ran 1/4 mile or not)
and if you do piggyback on top of that, you probably will have advantage, but i don't know how reliable that is, there is a guy in S4 form who did that and ran 11.24 on race gas.

details here.

A cheap tripod is the most expensive tripod because you'll buy 4 of them before you finally just spend on the right one.

Don't throw money at the wrong car if you're jonesing for the one with a couple extra cylinders. You'll eventually be buying the s7, so spend your time and money working that out responsibly.

It's all about what you're looking for and what suits your needs... when I bought my a7 I was happy with it and knew what I could squeeze out of it with a tune. I test drove a s6 before making my decision, I live in Las Veas, there is bumper to bumper traffic from 6am to 3am you rarely get a chance to actually drive your car like you should without being stuck in traffic or seeing a cop every 2 mins! Do I wish u had an s7 or rs7? Sure, do I need it, no. If I lived somewhere else I would probably of bought an s7.

You should have no problem at all getting S7 performance from a proper stage 2 level A7. The 3.0TFSI can easily make about 450chp or more on 93 octane at stage 2 pulley levels. I put down 370whp with a $300 piggy and a pulley. I had about $600 bucks into the car. Thats it. Performance got even better when I added a flash tune with the pulley. Plus, you still could add a dual pulley too. Then you should be at around 475-485chp.

Now that being said...is that going to be enough for you? You can get to stock S7 power levels just fine but are you 100% sure you would never tune the S7? Sometimes we say that in the beginning and 3 months later we are looking for a tune. A stage 1 level tune on the S7 is going to really give a dual pulley A7 a run for its money and certainly has the potential to put a car length or three on it.

The piggyback was on your S4, right? Or are you running it on your 6?

Hi there. Unfortunately the 2016 A6 has the new CREC engine that has new digital protocol map sensors that use SENT technology. The older 3.0T engines use analog sensors. The piggy was designed for those analog sensors so it wouldnt work.

I tested the Racechip that was developed for SENT sensors and it worked just fine (no issues) but the bypass still opened up to around 17%. So I wasnt gettting max power at all. THanks to forum member Chobe I reached out the DTUK and so far they have been absolutely great. I bought their SENT technology unit and am testing a bunch of maps. So far we are gettting very close to keeping the bypass valve closed while not triggering a limp mode. Theres still work to be done but its close.

I have an OD crank pulley here but i'm waiting for a custom one that is even larger to be sent to me. Plenty to come. I wish I had known about this and I would have bought a 2015 A6 but i'm trying my best to make lemons out of lemonade.

What tune and what additional mods are you running to get to that torque number? What fuel will you be tuned for?

It had the roc euro intake and quad awe exhaust, it hit 480ps and 578nm of torque with a MRC tuning remap
