I bought an '11 S4 P+ a couple weeks ago, and have been spending some quality time getting to know it. So far, this car is fantastic! I'm coming away from an FJ Cruiser(which was cool in its own right), but I missed the german sports too much. It came with 45000 on it, and overall runs great. Dealer didn't give much info on recent service, so as soon as I've got time, I'll be giving it a more thorough servicing, just to set a baseline for myself. Anything specific I should look for? I'm no master mechanic, but I've got a fair amount of experience under hoods, and a good old engineering education(which helps my wrenching less than I'd hoped lol)
I've searched here and on Audiworld's forums... I cant seem to find what I'm looking for...
- Why does the radio turn on when I turn the car on, even if it was turned off when I shut it down? Also, from the icon on the screen, is it safe to assume that it doesn't "turn off" the radio, but merely mutes it?
- If it won't stay turned off/muted when I shut the car down, can I at least adjust the initial volume somewhere?
- I installed a bluetooth device into the aux plug in the glovebox, and I've noticed sometimes if I have music playing I can only turn the volume down, not up. If I pause the music on my phone and then hit play, its fine again. Is this an issue others have with bluetoothing music?
Now for the stuff I'm thinking of while I'm typing, but havent actually searched for yet...
- How do I clear the saved inputs in the nav? I'd like to set my address as home, not the previous owner's.
- I ordered the Carista dongle, and I'll be playing with it a bit this weekend, but can I change the settings to have the fogs come on with lows automatically? I like to have them on, but its a bit annoying to press the button to turn them on(I know, first world problems)
- What is the purpose of rear fogs and why does Audi think I need a switch to turn them on/off?
- Am I the only one who likes the stock 18's over the 19" peelers?

As far as the radio goes......if you have the car running you can hold the volume button down for 2-3 seconds and the music should turn off (you'll however be left with looking at the backsplash screen).
Congrats on the new car!

Carista will allow to have your fogs on with park, low and high beam. You will still have to manually turn them on.
The rear fogs are a life saver if it's ever foggy out. You can see the car from very far away.
I hate the 18 inch wheels, good for some winter wheels. I'm bias because I have the rotor wheels and like them the most out of the few factory wheels.
Your mmi could use a hard reset, might help you with your Bluetooth problem. I can't remeber how to do it on your model though.
You can go to any Audi service department with the vin and request the service records for your vehicle.

The rear Fogs are great, especially in thick fog. Less chance of some idiot rear ending you cause he was going too fast lol.
And if I remember correctly, in my 2011 if I had the radio off it stayed off until I turned it back on. Regardless if I turned off the car...

Fantastic! Thanks for the info! I will look into these things... Now, I just need to find a different Audi dealer to deal with, since I bought from the only local Audi dealer, and lets just say they won't be getting any business but warranty work from me..

Congrats on the car! To clear the Nav just go into settings. You can actually set everything back to default to erase everything stored from the previous owner. That's what I did when I bought mine a couple months ago.

^^+1 Love my 19" peelers....even on my A4 [:D]
The rear fogs are great in fog, but, as another thread suggests, they are great asshole repelent when you get someone tailgating you on the highway. They are bright and they will back off if you turn them on. Just don't leave them on.....then you're the asshole.

It'll stay off until the MMI does a reset. No one can nail down exactly when this occurs, though. Seems like 1-2 hours after the car is shut off. The same thing happens when you use "mix" (shuffle) mode.

How do you turn on the rear fog? I'm new to the car and no manual came with it.

Great info! Thanks! I just recieved my Carista dongle today and unlocked the hidden menu, so I'm going to see what I can poke around with in there. I did a hard reset on the MMI(obviously, to get the hidden menu), so we'll see if that changes the music thing, but I think I just wasn't turning the MMI off. Kinda sucks you can't turn the "radio" off independently of the rest of the MMI, but I suppose thats the price of neatly packaged technology.
As for the peelers.... I like them, I just think the 18's will be easier to keep clean, and its a little cleaner/simpler design. I'll probably look into upgrading summer wheels/tires in the future though..

Be careful in the hidden menu. Hope you read up on menu before you start poking around in there.

Agree on the 18's. Plus smaller wheels are lighter, less prone to damage and ride better.
