After two months of having the shortshifter in my trunk i finnaly had some time in my hands to install it. The install took me about an hour could have been less if I had a good set of needle nose pliers around. The install was not that difficult thanks to there PDF. file it made it even easier. The biggest pain is how messy the job gets with all the grease the parts have from factory.

Now for the Review....

Once I finished the install i took it for a spin make sure all the gears when in fine and no notchieness or any other problems. Everything worked up to par and I have to say this is one of my favorite mods, its the first time i change a shifter in any of my cars and what a difference it makes. The gears go in so much crispier as to before they would like sort of wobble in it didnt feel as firm as it does now. Another great point of the Shifter is that the actual height of the shifter doenst lower so its still comfortable to drive. I have noticed in other shifters it sets the knob to low making it more uncomfortable to shift. Overall this is so far my favorite Mod and i recommend it to others, I havent tried out the other brands so I cant say which one is Superior over the others.

[hail] [hail] [hail] Daaaaaaaaaamn you and your LMs!!! 19"s?

And yes, I hope to get a STaSIS kit installed very soon. And as low as I can/should go. As low as the 19" MTMs and safety will allow. I don't want to sacrifice optimal sporty handling. But it's gotta look good!

Just to confirm, I have the AMS short shifter as well and couldn't be happier. Every other audi driver who has driven my A4 with it installed has been so blown away that they have gone out and bought one themselves.

Nice wheels, btw.

So I really need/want a shortshifter. Anyone have, or want to make a DIY for this? Although I assume it's exactly the same as it is on the B6.

Buy the AMS one. It comes with a great instruction guide filled with pics on EXACTLY how to install the shifter. Very clear guide. Also, you can get the AMS shifter at ecode tuning for 189. Heres a link for it: http://www.ecodetuning.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=443&c=34

I concur with Obviouse....there PDF file is perfect and str8 Forward...

I honestly didnt need the instructions until the end and it was to see how to align it...which it dont say...i did it buy eye and my gears are perfect best bet is to leave it loose and make sure third gear goes in perfect without having to move the shifter to the sides...If it goes str8 in then you are good to go if you have to curve some what from the neutral position then you need to readjust....

I hope you guys understand what im saying...i suck at explaining.

I just bought the short shifter from Neuspeed, but it's not installed yet. Should I switch to AMS ? Is it better ?

I havent tried The Neuspeed one before so wouldnt be able to tell you which one is better. The Ams Shifter has been flawless and everyone that has it gives good reviews.

How is your car shifting compared to before?
My neuspeed shifter is really hard to move through speeds, I feel bumps and I really need to pull it to shif FAST. It is shorter but it is not better. I need the same amount of time to shift cause it is harder to do it now !
Is it gonna loose it up a little later on? Do you have this kind of problems with yours short shifters? I don't know if it neuspeed's fault or it is supposed to shift hard when using a short shifter.

I am thinking to go back to stock, I just lost that really really nice feeling of changing gears in my car. Is is not like an Audi right now ..

The SS is by far my favorite mod!

>> The SS is by far my favorite mod!

That means my neuspeed is ok like this? This is what I should espect from a SS ? Or NOT? Can you be more specific ?

It really depends on how much of a reduction you choose. By going with a more drastic reduction, the force needed to make the shift is going to be higher. If you are unhappy with the neuspeed short shifter, you might try the AMS short shifter on the lower reduction setting. Its a 10% less reduction than the Neuspeed kit. I had tried the 40% reduction on a friend's car and felt that the throw required too much effort as well.

I have the AMS S/S and it is a great mod.

Add a snub mount and you'll feel the shifter tighten up a bit as well as the remaining slop is gone.
