Rear ended with minimal damage

Hello fellow Audiziners,

I need your advise on this one, as I keep going back and forth on what to do. A couple of days ago when driving to the airport I got rear ended by a cab, but the damage is very minimal so not sure whether to file a claim with his insurance company. I just got back from my trip so now I'm looking to make a decision.
As you can tell by the below pictures, the damage is VERY minimal but nevertheless damage on a brand new car I have had for six months. The bumper is a little pushed in but the valance is more obvious and something I definitely want replaced.
Now to my dilemma, since I am leasing the car with the car with the intention of buying it after my lease have ended as I am putting less miles on it and will have positive equity at lease expiration. If I file a claim with his insurance company and get the damage fixed, will is be marked as an accident on the car history? If so, would I be better off buying the valance by myself and changing it out? Will it negatively impact the valuation on the car when I got to resell it back to the dealership for a new vehicle?
Since this is my first "accident" with minor damage I am unsure on how to proceed so I am looking for a little guidance.
Are there other things that I need to consider?

I would get a quote to fix it and if it's cheap to fix at a good body shop then get it done yourself. Filing a claim with an insurance company can be a lengthy process and if the damage is minimal then it might be more of a headache than it's worth. Keep in mind though that just because it doesn't look that bad doesn't mean it's actually not that bad...there could be some damage you're not really seeing

I would file a claim. I doubt they are going to repair your valence. Body shop will probably want to replace it. Also like Cadence mentioned, you never know what clips may have been broken. Let your insurance go to bat for you. That's partly what you pay them for. Let them know what happened and let them go after the other insurance company.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely take the car to a body shop and have it looked at.
If I filed a claim would the incident be marked on the car history, I'm worried about the negative impact on resale value?

How about you file and ill take the money. I would file if I was you. I wouldn't want my Brand new car damaged when its their fault 100% and you can get it fixed easily.
