I plan on using the Torque Pro app.

What BT OBD II reader does everyone use?

Pros and Cons of each?

Not sure if Carista's obd adaptor will work with Torque but if it does you can kill two birds with it. Carista is pretty easy to use and the app is only 20$. You can check and clear codes plus change a bunch of stuff to personalize your car. Check it out. Search a bit, there is plenty of talk about the Torque app on here.

Are you able to show boost on the tq app? I can't get it to work on my iphone. Carista works fine.

I use Scan Tool BT with Torque Pro on almost every car I own- its extremely reliable and helpful. I can use live data when towing with my V10 Excursion (and old Android phone) to monitor EGT, Coolant temp, oil and trans temps. I have used live data to trouble shoot bad 02 sensors and bad cats on a few cars too.

Per my text I ended up with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NLQAHS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=viglink20461-20

Does what I need it to do for both our vehicles. Funny thought it won't allow me to measure Intakes temps on the S4 but does it on the minivan. It actually does nearly everything in the menus on our van but only about 80% on the S4. Weird.

I have it connected through Torque Pro to monitor:

Boost
Trans Temp
Coolent Temp
AFR's
Fuel Levels
Timing advance
Silly things like HP/TQ high and low values and silly 0-60 times.

Of course being able to see trouble codes and reset them is valuable but hopefully not necessary.

I had most of the programming mods done through a friend with a VAGCOM Cable and his laptop but i did pay the $20 for Carista to adjust the sunroof to tilt vs open along with windows and to enable the floor lighting at night.

I also have registered Dash Command. This is by far the better looking of the apps. I will be playing with this one a bit more.
Here's a link to what all it provides access (http://www.palmerperformance.com/support/supported_vehicles/generic_pids.php)to.

I use this OBD-II adapter. It's not BT, though, it's WiFi (it broadcasts a wifi network and you connect your phone to it). Works great and only $14.99 now. Not sure if it would work with the Torque app, but it DOES work with Carista.

To revive this tread, what BT adapter is everyone using with iPhone/iPad? I bought Dash Command and it does not work with the Carista dongle. So I have to buy another, but it needs to work on iOS.

Unfortunately iOS won't work with Bluetooth because Apple does not allow serial communication over Bluetooth so you will have to get a WiFi adapter like the one jsh139 linked above. PLX devices are expenesive but are very well made http://www.plxdevices.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=203

You can get the ELM off of amazon for cheap. I use it with caristia and Dash command. Dash command however does not support most things audi. Extremely disappointing.

How do you get trans temp to work? What are the parameters? I use my iPhone for daily duty, but I am familiar with Torque Pro and use a prepaid Samsung Galaxy S4 I bought from an old co-worker for that app only.

Carista for other mods. Both adapters worked great.

Damn good looking on that. I was getting ready to buy the dash command and use my Carista dongle lol. I'll order a wifi one off Amazon. Cheap enough.
