Hey Guys!

So as a lot of you know, my lovely Ocean Blue Pearl JHM Stage 3 Avant was rear-ended in January buy a teen driver on a cell phone. The insurance was quick to total the car due to extensive rear floor pan damage but not so quick to pay me what the car was valued at. After a lengthy month and a half battle back and forth with his insurance company I was able to get to an amount that both parties could agree on. Here are some pics of the car:

During the month and a half battle I was searching for the perfect replacement Avant. I was chatting with Nick @ Midnight Euro in Salt Lake City, Utah and he had given me a heads up about a completely stock 2007 6MT Avant in Ibis White with Black interior. Ding Ding…Winner! After chatting with him more about the car and him providing me with every picture of the car I could ask for we came to a solid deal on the car. My girlfriend and I decided to head up to SLT over Easter weekend to not only pick the car up but hit the slopes as well. I want to give a BIG shout out to Nick and Mitch @ Midnight Euro. Not only did that help me out with the car they also hooked us up with day passes to Solitude Mountain Resort and picked us up from the airport Friday night. They made the transaction easy, took time out of their personal lives to accommodate us and made sure that the car was everything that was expected to be. A BIG THANK YOU to them!

Now onto the goods! I know some of you will be wondering why on earth did I buy a base model Avant? When I say base I mean Manual Passenger Seat, No Rain Sensing Windshield, No Auto Dimming Mirrors, No Power Folding Mirrors and No Multi-function Display. Base as base can be. The only options this car came with was leather heated seats. That being said the reason I went with this car is because it was a low mileage (84K) completely STOCK Car. Plus I have all of the needed parts to turn this into exactly what I want from my blue one! Happy Modding!

Congrats on the purchase. Without seeing the accident photos, one would believe your last photo to be pure ecstasy. 2 mint, unicorns? Perfect. I'm still cut up over your loss. Ocean Blue is unworldly.

Anyway, congrats again and looking forward to the build.

Congrats to you for sure and my two cents worth...White looks awesome only on Avants ( and my FG Ute lol !)
I'll add this rider-color,looks,stance is all subjective,we luckily have choice otherwise all cars would be in color "Russian" ( which is all left-over paint mixed together ) !
So,blank canvas for you, keep us posted [up]

Were you able to buy back your Ocean Blue avant from the insurance company?

Geez. I would be swapping stuff over so fast from the other car. Wheels, Xenons, debadge and a window tint like day 1.

Congrats on the new car; I definitely like the white on black combo.

Not swapping everything in one day is the hardest part about having both cars here. Tint is for sure on the list.

Pick up some collinite 845 sealant, and use that every 3 weeks. It works wonders on lighter colored cars and is super easy to work with! Nice pick up [up]

Stayed after work this evening and completed the timing belt and water pump service. Swapped over my JHM Lightweight Crank Pulley, 034Motorsport Snub Mount and my original core support that had been premodified for my JHM Large Core FMIC and my FMIC and Power Steering Cooler. All in all a lot of work completed on the front end.

Yes absolutely! I have all of my parts from my blue avant to swap over so that's what is currently being done along with any and all maintenance. Plans for this avant are picking up right where they where for the blue one once I get finished with all of the swap over on the parts.

It the one listed above. Am I just supposed to pull the silver lines out and connect the new cooler straight to the hoses? Just not sure how the install is supposed to go. The instructions that came with it are generic instructions and don't really pertain to our car.

You need to buy 5/16" 8mm fittings. They aren't included with that kit. The JHM Front Mount uses a different cooler that includes everything you need.

So last night did a little bit more to get the car ready for all the go fast goodies from my big turbo kit.

Changed out the stock spark plugs for the FR5-DTC copper plugs and while I was at it replaced the coil packs and also the conduit and all 4 coil pack harness connectors. After that I installed a JHMotorsports Stage 1 file on the car because I just couldn't take it being so stock and slow....lol

List of Parts Installed:
Coil Pack Harness Wiring Protector or Conduit (https://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalog/coil-pack-harness-wiring-protector-or-conduit-oem-for-b7-a4-20t-p-3295.html)

Bosch Tri-Electrode Copper Plugs x 4 (https://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalog/spark-plug-bosch-tri-electrode-bosch-heat-range-18t-20t-27t-p-686.html)

That sucks, Dru. I feel that this is probably extremely common on 100k+ mile cars out there that aren't enthusiast owned since it isn't a scheduled/suggested maintenance item by Audi. The average owner just has no clue.

Are you going to take any precautionary measures? If it were me, I'd pull the VC and make sure there's no metal, and maybe pull the lower oil pan too to make sure the pickup isn't being obstructed by the missing piece. I had a friend blow his engine a few thousand miles after discovering his cam follower in the same condition. Car ran perfectly fine until suddenly dying one day, but I have a hunch that it was probably related.

The sad thing is this car has 84K on it. The car is currently at Elk Grove Audi in Sacramento having the inspection done so that they can cover this under the TSB. They will be keeping me very up to date on findings with pictures of what they find. I have given them a list of things I would like to see and precautions I would like to have taken to ensure the motors health.

Duuuude. That Fucking blows.

If it's any consolation, mine was hosed waaaay worse at only 54k miles. And I was an 08 with the "fixed" cam and pump. Which mean AoA told me repeatedly I was on my own. Or that they would cover 1/2 the cost, so $2500 out of my pocket for a $5000 repair. Newp.

Fingers crossed they handle this under the TSB.

We will see. The service adviser i'm working with is on top of his game and keeping me up to date with the car. He didn't mind when I asked for some specific pictures and an oil sample to send off. Elk Grove is so far living up to their reputation and diligently looking into the car for me.

Nice.

If I could rewind I would have gotten a PPI and found my issue before I bought the car. And gotten a $5k discount or had the repairs done before taking ownership. I'm not sure if I blame the CF failure as the cause of my oil consumption or the oil consumption as the cause of my CF failure, but I do know I would have preferred to not inherit what was clearly someone else's problem that he didn't take care of before his warranty expired. My guess is he brought it in for some inspection or just thought oil consumption was a normal thing. Realized the extent of the repair and dumped it at the BMW dealer I bought it from and they as well as I was none the wiser.

It fucking blew to grossly overpay for a car (because unicorn and crazy PNW prices) to then get told two months later that your car needs $5k in repairs.

But I got over it. Had my car been anything but a 2008, it would have been covered though... Still mad at AoA about that.

Derp. Mistyped. Mines a 2008 thus no chance of coverage unless AoA changes their stance on it.

Well the dealer provided me some disturbing pictures of the motor today.... this car was most definitely neglected in many aspects of its life... The dealer is going to fix everything that they can under the warranty but I will be taking it a step further and taking many parts apart again to clean this thing out....I plan on doing a proper engine flush regime when I get it back because this is just gross....

They are putting the new cam, cam follower and HPFP in the car. I'm just going to drive it till it dies or the motor is done. Then when my motor is completed and i'm ready to pull it out of the car I may just do a Hail Mary pass with the car and see what that stock motor can really handle.

I'm getting ready to do a bunch of maintenance/upgrades on this car I bought last month, but my local Audi dealer told me any TSB's related to the cam follower would only be covered if the car was still under warranty. It's an 05.5, if I find the CF is similar condition to vortexjunkie's, AoA will cover a replacement pump and CF?

They won't because the extended warranty is 10 years from the initial registration (or build) date. So the extended warranty has expired.

Some good news! The $500.00 motor I bought off Craigslist a few months back in anticipation of building a motor for the white Avant at some point seems to be in FANTASTIC condition.

The person I bought it off of told me it only had around 15-25K on it and that it is perfect. So far this seems to be correct. I don't think I have seen a cleaner head on a motor.
