The San Francisco Region of the SCCA is hosting a Rallycross at Altamont Speedway in Tracy, CA on Sunday 11/6/05. Altamont Speedway is between Tracy and Livermore just east of the windmills.
Google Map (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=17001+Midway+Road+Tracy,+CA+95376&hl=en)
Rallycross is basically autocross in the dirt. One car at a time negotiating a tight, twisty course marked with traffic cones. Emphasis on car control rather than all out speed. It's dirty, dusty, bumpy, and often tail-happy.
Come out and race or come out to see what rallycross is all about! Hopefully SFR will have more rally-x's at Altamont next season.
I'll be there with my turbo, all-wheel drive...
...hatchback. [:D]

RallyX is Full!
They have 90 drivers signed up and are not taking any more signups online.
I don't know if they will sign up additional people on race day if there are any cancellations or no-shows. [race]

That's all for now.
That was incredibly fun, Jason! Thanks again for the co-drive! You've got a great platform for a rallyx car; short wheelbase, light weight, turbo!
Next time I'll brush up on my Finnish to enhance the experience[:D]

That was incredible fun and dusty! I hope they decide to continue to host around the bay area, perhaps a less windy track or i just need goggles. I took more photos than i thought i would, so i'll try to post those tonight.

Cool pics!
Too bad they don't have ice-cross around here, you know any Swedish? [:D] [race]
Brian- yes, VERY dusty! I had a dust mask, but it was the dust in my eyes which was bothering me the most. I'm gonna get some goggles for the next one!

No, but ACNA-PNW chapter does a 'snow school' up in one of the sno-parks in WA, if you're ever interested. Now I regret that I never got around to doing it, when I lived there.

They have loners. And since there aren't very many people going to rallyx, the helmets are clean!

HAHAHA
Actually the course workers were lost in the dust storms....

it seemed like the worker stations were far away (safety I guess) and the dust and lack of chalk outlines makes it harder to spot mis-placed cones. so it's a bit wilder than AutoX, I definitely noticed some displaced cones that were not fixed until several cars had come through....and it's not inconceivable that the course *changes* gradually throughout the day, as cones are knocked over and replaced via the 'eyeball' method. Jason would you agree?
so I guess there's a bit of luck-of-the-draw involved in RallyX!

Not only does the course move around because the workers don't know *exactly* where the displaced cones go, but the rutting gets worse over the course of the day. Even though they take the tractor and grade the course between runs, the surface gets pretty chewed up. I hear that running in the first groups of the day is MUCH nicer (even on the hard pack of Thunderhill).
Results (http://www.sfrscca.org/RallyX/scoring/RXScores.2005.11.06.pdf) are up. I dnf'd twice [rolleyes] ....
Oh yeah, in rallyx, your time is all the runs added together. DNF is the slowest time of your run group + 15 seconds! Looks like I didn't hit any cones (surprising), it must have been that gate before the last loop. [mad]

Unfortunately it's the end of the season. Next rally-x won't be until April or May '06. I will try to post a week in advance (Martin... [:p] ).
There's a regional rally (not rally-cross) in Reno Dec 3-4. Several top (pro?) teams are supposed to be there.
Oh yeah, auto-x Sunday (11/13) at Candlestick. [race]

Yeah, the Azenis Sports don't grip the dirt very well. No grip, no dirt throwing. But they do well on the "tarmac".
