Auto trunk malfunctioning, doesn’t close when you press the button. in process of getting the hinge painted.
and 2nite when i was moving the car, the freaking Coolant temp warning came on, followed by LOUD fan noise from the engine.
this is ridiculous, i expected more from Audi, especially the A8L.
now i'm probably going to be driving my clients around in a dinky rental..
sorry for the rant. but very mad...too much time have been invested into dealer visits.
roadside will be here in the morning to tow the car.[mad] [:(] [down]

Trunk is a real pain. Had it fixed about 6 months ago, now it's not closing again. Three weeks without A8L and part still on back order.

yea, the part was on "national" backorder, and when i finally recieved the card to schedule an appointment, went in, found out the part wasnt painted. now i have to wait 2 more weeks, and not to mention a wasted trip to the dealership.

what part are you having painted and why? and what other problems have you been having?
My dad is thinking about trading in his porsche and range rover for an A8.

Sorry to hear about your prob's Gohan. I know it seems like an exercise in futility, but you should at least write your letters to AOA and the dealership manager....
Let us know what happens...good luck man.

Irish311 : thanks, roadside actually told me i'm only covered for the first 15miles only, after a little argument they're going to take care of it. if there are anymore problems, a letter will definitly be written out.

My dad has an A8...He has had some issues with his trunk as well, but no other problems. He actully loves the car compared to his 03 S430 4Matic Sport that he had. He leased the A8 for two years, he said he wants to get a Range Rover (he has had 4 of them in the past) or an S8 when the lease is up.
Good luck with yours.

The malfunctioning auto-close trunk is a very common issue with the 8.

It's not problem with th truck which bugs me. These things happen.
The real problem is the diffculty in getting parts and being without it for so long. This is the second time for me. You would think AoA would have the parts on hand not back ordered for months.

actually what bothers me is that i have to take the time to go to the dealership. some ppl might like that, but i hate dealer visits. they waste my time.

The A8 is a low volume run car, and they seem to have underestimated the potential for failure of the auto-close trunk. Poor planning on their part indeed.

Well the waqy to look at is.
That is 10X less the probs you would have had with a Merc.
5x times less than a 7series, plus I-drive is horrible.

true, but i feel when it comes to electronics, europeans are below the japanese, but when it comes to mechanical its vise-versa.

The hinges on the A8 is quite a common issue at the moment; it usually only bends the right hand hinge but can sometimes damage both.
Dealers in the UK have had to replace damaged hinges with still faulty ones to keep Customers on the road. We've finally got the stronger hinges and modified Boot Closure motors over here. But could take longer to get to the US...
I'm sorry to here you've been having this problem. Over in the UK A8 Customers are ALWAYS kept mobile in an equivilant A8 if customers are kept off road. Speak to Customer care if your not getting one.

How I can relate to that! It would be so nice if one could just prepare for the fix over the phone and then bring the car in when parts are there and the tech is waiting...
I haven't seen the hinge bent or damaged yet, but some of our A8s have a trunk close problem where it won't lock it all the way down. I found a fix for that (use a pen to trigger the hook into lock position, then unlock via the trunk lock outside).
Other than that, you can always open and close your trunk manually, if the power assist is not working. No need to have it sit at the dealer's waiting for parts.

its not sitting at the dealer, but they managed to send me a card saying all parts are in, i bring my car in, only to find out the parts needs to be painted. then i go back when its painted, then only to find out they're missing another part. Idiots!

Got my A8 back yesterday with trunk fixed (2nd time). Really pleased with how fast they took the car in once the parts arrived. Really pleased with the service.

Jeez....if I had to go back and forth like that I'd be a little disgusted. Maybe you should send them a bill for your time and all of the business you could have been chasing instead of driving back and forth to the dealer!

and on top of that, they think just becase they provide me with a Loaner car they're doing me a HUUUUUUGE favor, the guy said "oh atleast you have a nice A6 to drive around" and I said to him "I'm not paying $800 a months for an A6!"[mad] He couldnt say anything after that.

Yeah, that shouldn't be acceptable, especially on a lease. I mean you are only going to be driving the car for two years and paying a hell of a lot for those two years and yet it just sits in the shop, that's wack. I'd be pissed as well. I would demand an A8.

My A8 is on it's way into the shop for the 5th time for the trunk and various other things. I suppose I don't mind because I hear the same thing from the benz and bimmer guys..
So what option is there?? I love the car!!

i've been putting off the dealer visit, they have the parts and everything, just too lazy to head down there, but the thing is, the Trunk "Magically" fixed itself. [:D]
