View Full Version : What kind of bulbs are the city lights and fogs?

From what I understand they are W5W for the city lights, and not sure on the fogs. My guess is either H7 or H11.
And could you do me a favor and remove the animated gif from your sig? One image only please.

City lights are W5W, and the fogs are H11. I'm still trying to figure out how to fit my hand in that gap... Haha. It should look 100X better after some xeon match. Hell, let's break in the housing and take the amber out... j/k. I'll wait for some DIY on that one

Cool, good to know. Changing the bulbs out will be one of my first mods. Wanting to remove the amber lens from the housings too...hmmmnnn... I already have new bumper markers that will be getting colormatched soon. That's a fairly easy one.

What's the actual spec part number for the city lights? I know it can't be called w5w. Is it the same as 194?
By the way, how do you remove the front amber reflector and where to get prepainted ones or clear ones?

where did u get them? do u mean the white reflectors on the front bumper?

I believe the W5W is also known as the #194.
The reflectors in the bumper are amber/orange. Got a set from the dealer and I'm having them painted to match the car.

OK so has anyone removed their housings yet and/or changed their bulbs? In the past, with the B5, B6, and GTI it has just easiest to remove the housing to get at the bulbs. Looking to do so very soon.

To change out the city light and DRL, pop off the cover the on the side of the housing and access the bulbs through the little hole.

Philips Blue Vision. It still looks yellow next to the xenons but looks better than the standard bulbs. My Avant is dirty as fack. It needs a wash. [:(]

Oh, yeah. To remove the whole housing, I've read the whole bumper need to be taken off.

So I was able to change my city-light bulbs without removing the front bumper, was actually easier than I thought. But I did end up removing the front bumper yesterday to install my new color-matched reflectors. Would have been so much easier if it wasn't for these two bolts barried deep inside the fender!
The DRLs are 7506's I believe. Single filament 25W round base bulbs. City-lights are W5W flat-base bulbs.

How much did the reflectors cost? I'm thinking of buying a second pair and having them to painted too.

It's can't be 7506s. I was changing the city light bulb yesterday, and that bulb resembled similar to the h7 bulbs that i changed for the low beams. Can anyone confirm? I remember the two connector prongs instead of the 1156/7506 style round connector

You must have halogen housings. Probably, h7 for lows and h7 for highs. I know the xenon housings have a round bulb for the DRL and definitely not an h7.

Maybe because you have halogens, Xenons use different bulbs for just about everything.
Can't recall how much the reflectors were. Will post a new thread with the details later today.

So if I want to upgrade my factory HID (bi-xenon), exactly which one I need to get? H7 or DRL, and do I need to change the ballast too or just need to change the bulb? Also correct me if ¢×am wrong, the fog light spec is H11 right?

Fogs are indeed H11. That's the only question I have an answer for... I think you may have your terms a little confused for the other q's.

if you already have factory hids, you may want to up grade your city lights(size w5w) and your drl(size 7506) to whiter output bulbs. you can upgrade your factory hids bulbs to higher temp bulbs and keep the same ballast.
