Looking for a semi-local place to have my radar hard wired. Tried it myself but couldn't figure it out. Ik, it's sad. I have all the parts needed I believe.

Anyone have any input?

Located Seacoast NH/Southern ME

give East Coast European a call. not sure its their thing, but they might be able to give you a reference. They're in Greenland
i'm in Portsmouth - what do you drive?

Thanks man, is that where you get your work done?

I've been meaning to head over there for a tune-up, the service at my garage is starting to fade.

I'm currently living in Kittery. Driving a b7 a4 avant, arctic white with black plasti dipped stock split 5 spoke wheels, it's lowered. Honk if you see me.

East Coast European is awesome. The Marks are really nice guys. I would highly recommend them.

Also, get the JHM 91 or 93 Octane Stage 1 tune while you're in there...you won't regret it! I know you're in Maine, so you might want to lean towards the 91 Octane.

If you feel like giving it another go yourself, this might be useful...

Ahhh thx , should have searched harder.

I'm a little hesitant to get the tune, I had the cam follower destruction. She's a bit touchy in winter but no leaks. Heard it even gives you a little mpg at every day speeds. Arghh.

I also had the cam follower issue, but I made changing the follower out part of my routine maintenance. Its an easy DIY, and only a $20 dollar part (click (https://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalog/cam-follower-for-fuel-pump-for-b7-a4-20t-p-1629.html?cPath=65_255))

I drive through Kittery a lot on my way up to the Loaf. Maybe I'll see you around!

Nice to see new people around. Give the install another try following that DIY. Should be fairly straight forward.

Hell ya man, what a shit winter so far eh? I was hoping to ski some of their new terrain off the summit. Heading to Gunstock for some crud skiing in a few hrs.

Yea...its not been great lol. Not terrible though. I've got about 10 days up there so far. I'm up just about every weekend.

Nice photography, btw!

As others have said, give the DIY another go. Done it myself several times with no issues. I'm sure between the few DIY's there are on here you'll be fine.

What detector are you hardwiring?

Thanks man, I'd love to be shooting skiing right now. Maybe February will bring the pain.

An OG Escort 8500. I think I'll upgrade in my next car. There's just too many wires hanging around the cockpit for my liking.

Agreed. Also liked the idea of concealing as much wires as possible so it was more discrete. Noticed I was having some people plant themselves behind me on the highway when I had the typical setup with wires hanging.

Best of luck and let us know how you turn out. When/if you're looking to upgrade I'd highly suggest a Valentine. Have one myself and it's great. (Not looking to start a Passport vs. Valentine argument here, just my .02)

I went a step further with mine and got a secondary display as well. Built it into my rearview mirror and mounted the unit in the upper lefthand corner of the windshield. Probably more involved than you're looking but it's an idea.

This is probably the easiest electrical mod you could do besides changing a bulb. Give it a go again.

My $0.02 ([evilsmile])...the gps in the new passport that prevents false positives has been amazing. Helps me trust the detector more when i actually get a "real" alert.

In case you haven't had this done yet, speedlife motorsport inot haverhill is a great shop, always willing to help. You can see their build logs where they did a full radar detector / laser jammer install on an r8. Turned out amazing

^^ thanks wxs. Ive heard of them in the past.

I'm still under debate on valentine vs the new escort. My current escort is only set to Ka and laser bc of all the false bs in K band. I have a very close buddy from high school who has always had valentine models and swears by them, somehow he still gets pulled over. Watch out for a lowered white acura TL in the area he's a madman.

Here's the DIY I made when I hardwired my passport in case it helps:

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/493344-Hardwire-Escort-Passport-8500-X50-Radar-Detector

edit:
just realized this was already linked, oops.
good luck with install!

also - I have mine set to only alert to K, KA, and LASER. With my mute button, I just mute the false-positives like store automatic doors and whatnot. I know that a fair amount of town police use K band - so be aware of those. Most state police here use KA band (or none at all) from what I can tell.

They had a Beltronics sti r install on the r8. It's a nice setup similar in performance to the escort 9500 that is fully installed except it doesn't come with laser jammers.
