Came out to my car this morning and there was 2-3" of standing water on the floor of my rear passenger seat. [headbang]
I've had the car thru numerous car washes....not so much as a drip. And I live in Oregon.....very much rain here....and we just went thru fall.....not so much as a drip.
Except....these last 2 days we've had record rainfalls here. Many areas are flooded (you may have seen on the news). We've had about 7 inches of rain at my house in the last 48 hours. And it looks to me like that is simply more than this car can handle.
But it's weird I can't see a drop of water anywhere else. Not on the seats....no other floorboards are wet.....this is ONLY the passenger rear floor. It's almost as if it sucked it right up from under the car!
I'm guessing there is a water drain channel somewhere that is slightly clogged.....and only creating an issue with this much torrential rain. But I have no idea how to go in search of that. And like I said.....there is no obvious place I can see where the water is coming from.
Anybody "been there done that" that can lend a bit of advice to where I should start going in search of a root cause? Also.....are there any electrical components under here or the passenger seat I that I should be concerned about? All I've done so far is wet vac the standing water out as I discovered this on my way to work this morning and that's all I've had time to do so far today.

I had an 01 A4 that had this same issue... Turns out water was coming in through the pollen filter housing (cabin air filter housing). On my A4 there was a lot of rot (rust) in that area which was causing the water to come in.

The first place to check is the battery compartment by the cowl. There is a rubber drain nipple that will clog with debris (leaves, pine needles, etc) allowing standing water to build up and overflow into the cabin air filter housing. You will need to remove both the battery and battery tray for access. It may seem like the water is only in the rear footwell, but it's the lowest point...
The other, scarier possibility is the rear sunroof drain. It's sometimes possible to open the sunroof and snake it clean (service manual suggests a long speedometer cable core)...

Excellent advice....will start at the battery and hope as that sounds easiest....then move to the sunroof if necessary.
And my driveway is a slight hill....so yeah....it makes sense it would all settle in the rear.
Thanks much....this is exactly the type of advice I was hoping for!

My a6 did this same thing after I powerwashed the accumulated crap under the battery tray, explains how it got wet back there.

I was also worried with all the rain we got how the allroad would fair with all the water that was being dumped on it. Mine luckily made it through just fine.
I will second the battery tray being clogged. I cleaned mine out a couple of years ago when I flushed my heater core but I'm probably due for another cleaning soon. You'll be surprised how much crap can get down in there.
If it was your sunroof drain you would likely see some kind of water mark on the pillars and/or the headliner. My wife's GTI had this issue a month or so ago and you could see the water mark on the A pillar.

I'm in Tigard. From what I saw on the news your area got it even worse than us. But still not as bad as other areas....Vernonia is basically under water.
And yeah....my first suspicion was the sunroof (water on the floor.....look up!...LOL) but I saw no evidence at all on the headliner or elsewhere there was a leak...or ever had been.
I'm anxious to get home and take a look under the battery....or maybe I just park this car in the garage until this weekend when I know I'll have more time.
Thanks again to all who have replied.....I really hope this is in the battery box drain! [az]

Yeah, it was pretty crazy. Luckily I live on the top of a hill but I'm really close to the area that got hit hard. It's right near a dog park that I go to a lot which is now a dog pond.
Be sure you dry everything out well and check on any electronics under the seats that may have gotten wet. Crazy stuff can happen with wet electrical components. Good luck. [up]
