Hey guys I am wondering if I just got taken by a mechanic. I brought my car in because it had developed a sudden and quite large oil leak he told me it was a crankshaft seal and replaced it. Well I just picked up the car and have two issues The mechanic told me it was a cheap chinese seal and this is why it came out he said it was pushed out and didn`t need to take the timing belt off. I took the seal he gave me and it is clearly audi branded? The car also now has a super rough idle and struggles to even run He said it has "timing issues" and fixing the air leak (crankshaft seal) caused the rpms to drop. I am wondering if that is true? I was under the impression the timing belt had to be removed to replace the seal is that true?

yes it was a euro car shop claims to be audi mercededs bmw "specialist". The oil was coming from the front of the engine I thought front crankshaft seal until I found a dry timing belt to me it definitely seemed to be the valve cover seals. The leak is fixed.
