View Full Version : UPDATE: My pod design with gauge installed

10-15-2005, 04:15 PM
I'm still shopping the design out to plastic manufacturers and I should be done in a couple of more weeks. Making the aluminum mould is the biggest challenge and that is where all the money is going to be spent.

Anyway here are some pics with my gauge installed. The first shot is as close as I can get to what I see, or don't see, when the pod is in place.

So if you people are still interested I'll be taking orders soon to make this thing.

Pretty good, but I think I still like the AWE vent mount better. You got a B6 or B7?

10-15-2005, 07:51 PM
AFAIK the column cover piece is the same in the B6 and the B7.

The AWE is nice but with the sunroof open you get glare on the dial and can't see it. And it isn't cheap @ $250US

My pod elminiates the glare issue, allows you to see the tach and the boost at the same time without having to shift your line of sigh, lets you put in a larger diameter gauge and costs less.

Well, I'm not so worried about the sunroof issue, since I rarely use it, but it is true that it's 250. So how much does that whole set up run you if you don't mind?

My prototype cost around $300 to make and that is before adding in a gauge which is $45.

I'm trying to keep the cost of a finished unit without gauge below $100. Final price to be determined by the process used to make the pod.

Then the user an decide just how fancy of a gaue they want from VDO on the inexpensive end to an Omori/Defi at the other.

I'd be down to order one for sure. Very smart design.

Here is the last update for this thread as I'll be starting a new one to tell you people about the details.

But right now the one thing you all want to know is this...

The pod will cost $75 shipped as I decided on using an injection moulding plant.

So is anyone still interested at that price?

The pod is meant to be used with any standard 2 1/16" gauge of your choosing.

The gauge you see is a Stewart Warner unit.
