Has anyone ever completed a 1.8t swap on a b7 on here? Besides needing the engine of course, would I also need a aftermarket ecu if i want to get a custom setup....or try to get my hands on a b6 a4 ecu w/o auto tranny, alont with a wiring harness. Is it also possible to run the 1.8 with the med9.1? Just very curious as to looking for a more cost effective alternative to get more power...rather than building up the ea113.

I don't know the answer to this unfortunately

but if I were you I'd look into engine codes. If the engine is the same from the b6 1.8t as the b7 1.8t [foreign market]; you'd probably have the best luck sourcing a wiring harness and ECU from a foreign part out and using that...although someone with more knowledge might be able to tell you the harness is almost the same -- I can't imagine it being all that different.

I'd stay away from aftermarket ECUs if this is a daily driver...

If your going to go that route to build more power why not drop the 2.7T in your car? wayyyyyy more power! And there are a few good write ups on how to do it!

I am not an expert on this at all so I could be wrong, but I thought it was worth mentioning... I think there are legality issues with putting an older model year engine in a newer model year car. The part to confirm is that even if the 1.8T (in a B7) is offered in, for example, Australia, is it legal in the US to do?

EDIT: You might be able to because of the whole B6=2005 and B7 = 2005.5 overlap, but I think you're car needs to be a B7 2005.5. It also wouldn't explain why we're able to swap 2.7T into our cars.

I just think its worth looking into.

Is there a thread i can read on the 2.7t motor on here? Im lost as far as the 2.7t goes and motor tech. And as far as wayyyy more power im sure you mean torque because anyone can always build up a 1.8.

2.7T is a bi-turbo V-6. 1.8T is single turbo 4-cylinder.

A quick search will get you there.

Audi originally wanted to put the 2.7t in the audi tt but i heard there was no room that youd have to pull the engine to change spark plugs. Theres an imola tt they had as a demo i ve seen pictures of.

Wayyyy more power means horsepower and torque! Sure you can build up a 1.8T but You build up a 2.7T and it will out shine the 1.8t in both horsepower and torque. The 2.7t can be a 500+ horsepower beast and there are so many performance parts available.
