View Full Version : High Engine Vibrations

Last night, I noticed that my engine vibrations increased drastically! When I'm accelerating in 1st gear, by the time I shift up at 2500rpm, it feels like the engine is doing almost twice as much. It now idles at almost 800rpm (it used to idle at about 700rpm). Even at idling, the vibrations are very bad, it's enough to expose new rattles in the door panels now. The vibration from the pedals is as if my foot is on an electric drill. Again, all this happened only last night. No CEL.

Has anyone come across this before? Likely causes...? Thoughts...? It's my DD but do you think it's safe to continue to drive?

I've noticed that for the past couple of days that my fuel economy has gone down from 380-390mi per tank to about 300mi (DTE+miles driven since last tank fill). Also, when I coasted to a stop in neutral, the engine "idles" close to 1000rpm until I stopped and then it returned to the normal idling speed when I came to a stop.

My most recent repair was to change coilpacks & spark plugs to the red kind about 500mi ago. At that time, I was getting a very hesitant acceleration (almost as if something was holding the engine back; even at WOT, it would rpms & speed would go up slowly). I also had a CEL for a misfire. These symptoms went away after the repair.

EDIT: I have 97,800mi on it.

Drive for a few days and see if it goes away? Nothing too crazy symptoms wise...Feel like it could just be in your head [:)] 800rpm idle is 100% normal

I would check the torque on the spark plugs and ensure the coil packs are all seated properly and the harness connections are secure if you have not already. Start with the most recent change and eliminate that as a possible issue.

I had vibration and a clunk while shifting. Turns out the engine mounts and snub were bad. Check your mounts.
