View Full Version : Turbo Squeal, What Does This Mean?

Something I noticed with my car for awhile, however never mentioned.

So getting on the car at lower speeds, high RPM, etc. -> Boosts fine, pulls hard, no turbo noises. (i definitely can hear the recirc from the DV in my car too).

5th or 6th gear, higher speeds, say 50/60-70ish mph, if I'm going speed limit in 6th and start stepping on the throttle, 2 things happen:

1. A squeal that sounds as if its the turbine spinning and squealing but if i SLOWLY roll onto the throttle and ease it into boost its fine with no noise.

2. If i get on the throttle as i could in lower gears at lower speed -> boost gauge jumps up to 15-16 pounds and as the squeal begins to slow the boost settles back to the normal 10 lb range.

What exactly could this mean? Its only at normal high way speeds. Otherwise car boosts FINE. At 80 mph when you are cruising and try to ease on to boost its much easier, but at 60 mph at lower RPMs in 6th with more load I would say, the squeal is almost unavoidable at times.

My oil consumption is still at a wopping 500-800 miles per quart. I have a BFI CC, new VC gasket, new oil drain plug.

Also, with the test pipe when revving in reverse or going forward, not much smoke (unless i rev up HIGH i blow light clouds of black smoke), but i do spit some black oil. This was right after my last oil change. Exhaust tips can get a bit wet here and there, usually cold start which im not surprised for, and they are definitely very sooty. The rear paint of my car you can definitely notice the exhaust deposits in contrast with my white paint haha.

Any thoughts? [confused]

Also forgot to check for shaft play when I was doing my test pipe like an idiot.

Sounds like a future turbo thrust bearing failure[confused]. Mite need a turbo re-[wrench] down the road
