View Full Version : Just an FYI about the Koni Coilovers aka Stasis Street Sport...

I used to find these to be a very inexpensive option for those who wanted to go with a coilover for just a couple hundred more than a spring/damper setup, but it appears the design has caused the rears to be very minamally adjustable running the rear dampers outside their efficiency range. I recall some earlier posts on this about 3 to 6 months ago and the problem seems to have been confirmed. It appears folks are talking to Koni right now to try and encourage them to refund or redesing. I thought this info. may be particularly important to use since we are using the same Koni/Stasis kits on the B7 as were designed for the B6 and our cars are even heavier amplifying this problem. This problem does not extend to the higher end Stasis lineup like the Track Sports or Motor Sports kit it appears. Thanks. Cheers! Mike

I thought this probelm was fixed with the Koni Chrome shocks? Well i'll have a full write-up once I get mine installed this week. I'm really not going to be worried about raising it that much, my friend has KW VII's (also use Koni shocks) and he saids he never raises them for the winter season and never has a problem and his car is dumped.

It looks like the problem started with the chrome shocks as the old ones had been sold for years with no probs.

"Mike - it has to due with a manufatuering change by koni on the rear spring adjuster. Aparrently the new ones are shorter than the old ones and the rear can not be raised as high as the older units."

Let us know how it goes will ya? I think the more people who contact Koni that the ride height cannot meet their advertised specs therefore running the dampers outside efficiency range, the better and perhaps they can provide new setups exchanged to customers at no cost. Looking forward to your writeup on how they go. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. cheers! Mike

Thanks bro, yea i'm setting up an appointment for the install tommorow and hopefully have them on Thursday, but like I sad i'm probably not going to be tampering with the ride height all to much so i'm not that worried.

Thanks for the info, Mike! I was looking at different coilover options and had decided on the TrackSports... looks like now it'll be Bilstein PSS9's for me.

I don't know of any problems with the tracksports at all John. Just the street sports. Either way, you should be fine whether it be track sports or the PSS9. cheers! Mike

Thanks for the update on the TrackSports. Unfortunately I got the two mixed up - I was planning on getting the StreetSports.

Yuppers. I have been driving all evening with them. Did some running in the twisties and chasing around with a bud. All I can say for now is that they are absolutely fantastic. I have them set to full stiff on the rear and one setting away from full stiff on the front and honestly I find the ride completely tolerable. I'll post a full writeup in the upcoming week. cheers! Mike

Thanks for the update on the Bilsteins Mike! About how much was it lowered after installation? I'm sure it has not quite settled all the way yet but it sounds like this suspension set up is pretty nice!

Also, you said your suspension set at full stiff rear and one from full stiff front. What are the other levels of adjustment? Thanks again!

You have 9 levels of adjustment. 1=full stiff and 9=soft. I use setting 1 in the rear and setting 2 in the front. The car is now lowered from ~27 3/4" to 25 3/4" but that is all adjustable. The reason the car is at 25 3/4" is because that is the lower limit of optimal range for the dampers. You want to set the limits based on the damper ranges not necessarily based on how low you like the car to look if interested in the actual performance of the product. cheers! Mike

Excellent info! Thanks alot, Mike.

Would you mind posting a pic or two of your B7 with the suspension? I'm curious to see how it looks with a 2-inch drop. Sounds like that is right were this suspension needs to be for optimal performance, which is what i'm looking for over looks.

that sux, cant believe koni overlooked something like that, maybe they can just send out a bunch of the "old" perches that those of us with the older versions have...

on those pss's mike, has bilstein had any similar problems with respect to the rear spring collapsing like they were/may still be (not sure if its been fixed) notorius for on the tt?

Don't know of any probs yet. Jet has tracked his all year for two years now regularly and it seems to hold up. Hopefully all is well. cheers! Mike
