Other than the S6 having bigger brakes, is there any other difference to be considered when shopping for wheels? I am looking at 20x9 et25 for my 2016 A6. Any suggestions/thoughts? Or should I go with 20x8.5 et32?

robc has 20x9 +25 on his s6 here:

i need to install 10mm spacers on my HRE's to make them 20x9 +25 also.
i would say go for the 9 +25 if you want a flusher fitment, but it also depends on what you plan to do about lowering it. you can fit wider wheels on the a6 with a little work with control arms and what not. not too sure about the limits on the s6.

I ended up ordering 20x8.5 et32 just to be safe.

Obviously it depends on what look you are going for and what tires you plan on using, but I like my 20x9.5 ET 35 with 265 tires. That would be like 9 inch ET 28.65 or 8.5 ET 22.3
That is almost 9.7 mm more aggressive than what you ordered. That is basically 3/8 of an inch. From another perspective, that is like putting 13mm spacers on the stock wheels. So, it won't be very aggressive, but if that is what you like, go for it. Most guys that go like 12mm F and 15mm R spacers wish they had more.
I think the 8.5 ET 25 or 26 would be good. A few mm less aggressive than mine but still good.
Here is a pic of the 9.5 ET35
