Opened the hood yesterday and had oil all over the left side of the engine bay. I cannot see oil leaking from any particular place. Oil was also on the hood. Any suggestions on where I should start my search?

Sorry, I forgot to mention it is a 2.0T automatic with 150K.

Just to be clear, your left or the car's left?

I had a bunch of oil leaking onto my cat, my turbo, and all over that metal flap/piece on the left of the engine bay, right next to the coilpacks, it ended up just being my valve cover gasket, I'd start there just because it's a cheap fix

My bad, it is actually the right side if I am facing the front. So the driver side.

I will take a closer look at the valve cover gasket for starters.

It would be the driver side or right side when I am facing the front of the car.

Pics could possibly help.

I'd say it would be the oil cooler; that's the only thing I can think of on the driver's side. But that doesn't explain why there would be oil on the hood...?

Yeah, I'm a bit confused unless it squirted out of your oil cap. VC is a must-check, but also look down the side of the engine and take some pics for us to help diagnose.
