Hello everyone, i posted about this awhile back not knowing what the problem was... now i know what it is and need a suggestion on how to fix it.. my wastegate rattles on deceleration and is driving me insane. I heard that for the VW 2.0T's they make a rattle clip, found it on ECS... wondering if anyone else has had any problems with theirs, and if they have tried the clip... its like $40 for a little clip... want to make sure it works before I order it. Thanks!

This has been a known issue for some time. I don't know how bad the rattle on yours is, but I have it as well. It sounds like marbles swirling around a metal can, but it's fairly faint. It has no effect on performance, and won't be a danger to anything wastegate/turbo related. I haven't heard of the clip, but I'm sure someone on here has tried it.

whats the part number for the clip?

Maybe try to find a local junkyard and get the clip from there.....

Mine is only when i let off the gas 3500-2000 rpms, it is pretty faint but super annoying. inside the car you can barely hear it but outside it noticeable... I cannot stand it and need to find a fix.

I remember someone a long time ago talking about using the clip. I don't recall if they used it or if it fixed it. Try it and see I suppose, the other option is to adjust the wast gate arm and make it tighter. If you decide to do it then be careful. You can over tighten it and that would be bad.

I read that the 2.0's cant be adjusted? or is that wrong information...? I just need something to fix this rattle, i know it sounds ridiculous i am acting like a baby about it lolllll.... but its driving me insane. lol

Mine did this, when I pulled the turbo the flap it self was cracked and flopping around. I couldn't find any parts for this online, but admittedly I didn't look super hard as I wasn't putting the turbo back in the car anyway. I'll post some pics for an example later today.

Dang it... i really cant afford a new turbo right now.. i see no boost problems and car seems to be preforming properly.

Mine does this too. Interested in a fix if anyone knows how. Not really trying to spend $50 on a tiny metal clip.

Found this a few days ago. Looks pretty simple and a good fix. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/549484-DIY-Diagnose-and-Repair-of-Loose-Wastegate-Flapper-(P0299)

WOW! I may give that a try not sure I have big enough balls though haha... That seems pretty intense!

Other than that, I did look at mine this last weekend to see if I could do anything, and it is one nut on the waste gate rod but kind of difficult to get at with anything without taking anything off. I did manage to turn it maybe a 1/4 turn, and it is just ever so slightly quieter.

Okay sweet, were you able to turn it from up top looking down the bay or from underneath? I have also tried to even just feel around in there and its super tight...

From underneath, I might try to give that other method a go when I replace my valve cover gasket this weekend though.

Alrighty! let me know how it goes! did you turn it by hand or with a wrench?

I ve been getting a rattle lately around 1500-1800 rpm on downshift/slowing to stop. I got a couple fingers on the wastegate actuator rod and wasnt able to move it to side to side, but there was very slight movement when i was tapping on it

Could be it still, when i first got my car the rattle wasn't bad at all and i checked the actuator rod and barely no movement, but now it moves a large amount!
