So, this is my first tip car and I was just wondering if this is normal. If put it in drive and drive normal, the car will shift to 2nd gear so fast. Is this normal? It almost seems like the car takes a quick dive for a second and then shifts to second.
If I drop it down in sport, it won't shift until about 3000rpm.
Also, in drive (not switched over to tip mode) should you be able to shift with the paddles (even though it's not in sports or over in tip?)
Thanks

In drive from a stop...the transmission will start with the 2nd gear.
The only time it will engage the first gear is when you force it through the tiptronic gear change gate or because you're going up a really steep hill at very low speed.

But when I'm sitting at a light, it will show 1st gear and then switch to 2nd. Why would it start in 2nd?

It starts in 1st, but changes to 2nd very fast unless you are trying to accelerate hard - this presumably is for fuel economy. In sport mode, it will hold out longer before it shifts to 2nd so that you can have better throttle response if you want to drive more aggressively. And for your final point, yes- even if you are in D, you can still use the paddles to switch into manual mode even though the shift lever is not in S or manual mode. Everything you mention in your post seems normal.
