Ok, so I normally don't drive with my windows down, so never noticed this until fairly recent, but I noticed that there's what seems like a turbo whistle sound when I'm accelerating on full throttle. This happened even before I got my APR tune. No CEL light or anything, but just wondering if this is normal. Car drives great and only 26k miles. Thanks in advance.

Video of this whistle sound I posted to YouTube:

Normal.

I think the better question is, HOW THE HELL DO YOU HAVE 26K MILES??

Haha, thanks for confirming fellas. As for why such low miles, it's because up until this year, the car was my wife's and she used it only to drive our son to and from school while I had an Infiniti FX35 for my daily commuter. Traded in the FX this year for a Benz ML350, and wifey is using it, so now B7 is mine for my commute. APR tune was one of first things done as the stock B7 felt slow compared to my FX. This is my first turbo car so not used to that whistle.

Hot damn, and I thought I'm the only one with low mileage at 50,000.

Normal? It sounds like a small boost leak. Do you have an intake or is it all stock?

It's all stock. It only happens on hard WOT acceleration. So do others have this same symptom?

Mine is completely stock, no tune, 6spd, and it is much quieter than this... I mean, there is a whistle under WOT acceleration, but this sounds like you are leaking air somewhere. Just my opinion though [:)][up]

It sounds normal. I heard it when I had my stock exhaust

OR - More people have been driving with boost leaks making it seem normal.

Audi designed this system to be completely quite. It should not make noise.

Is it hurting anything? Probably not.

Pedal's gotta be fully depressed for that sound to pop up, so I don't hear it much. Guess I'll get it checked out next time it's in the shop. Thx all.

I have the same whistle and I know it's a boost leak somewhere. Slowly but surely will have logs and boost leak test DIY done

Have bad speakers here at work, but I'm thinking possibly a slight boost leak as well. If it's accessible to you, I'd just smoke test the system and see if anything comes up. Boost leaks are not uncommon with these vehicles unfortunately.

Something to keep in mind with checking for boost leaks - Make sure you pressurize the system to the same amount of pressure you are tuned for (~20psi) because some leaks may only show their face a specific PSI.

Thank all for the advice. I had the sound even prior to my tune. Will def have it checked out. Funny cause the car pulls really strong, and there is no CEL. Wouldn't a boost leak give off an error light?...

Not if it's only leaking 1-2psi which is just enough to make the noise.

Got it. Thanks Jake. And here I thought my car sounded cool with that turbo whistle sound...saw videos of how some people buy those cheesy turbo whistle thingys and bolt them into their muffler tailpipe- it sounds the same on my car. Lol!

Just flashed to jhm stage 1 91oct and also getting this exact same noise WOT in 1st and 2nd gear. How exactly do I check for boost leaks?

I checked and replaced my rubber diaphragm DV with a GFB DV+ before flashing so I know it's not the DV.

You need to pressurize the system.

You can start by just tightening every boost hose clamp and seeing if that fixes it, if you don't have he means for boost leak testing.

Thanks!

Have you noticed any "common" areas for boost leaks with the b7 2.0 motor?

Just to add to this (or take), can one measure the requested and actual boost to determine if you have a leak?
