JHM is a good sole source for those. In the spirit of shopping around, you can also check ECS Tuning, EuropaParts, FCP Euro.

Also check Genuine Audi Parts to find out how much money you're saving [;)]

Sounds like something grenaded with the cam follower. Are you a MY 2007 or earlier? The extended warranty should cover you up to 120k miles. If not, disregard my post lol. For the other bits, JHM and Europaparts have always been good to me. Great guys to work with, good prices, and fast shipping. Do I get a free T-shirt Jake/Hugh? [evilsmile]

Man that [=(]. I am ever so thankful of reading the common problems thread about our b7's. Cam follower was replaced at my first oil change by me and it did look a little rough. My car was at 110000 when I changed it. Got it at 106000 and do not know if it had ever been changed. There is a diy for that around here that I followed. Got oem one from ecs with a bunch of other small things. Like they said too, make sure you get all the metal from the follower out. Could be in the timing chain run or maybe even in the oil pan. Point is if it's left in there you're destined for another catastrophic failure. Good luck!!!!

If it was a stock car, you were probably fine. Upgraded hpfp's put more stress on it, leading for a higher wear rate. While I'm tuned, I have found that mine tends to last >15k miles compared to 10k or less for others. Depends on how you drive though. I've also been using Lubro-Moly, which may be helping in that respect.

When my cam failed, I piecemealed the parts due to time constraints. I bought the cam and HPFP from GAP, I bought the timing components and a few other things from IE, and I believe I bought some other random bits from JHM.

This post was super helpful I know.

Welp, I had to end up replacing the motor, cam follower fell apart and scarred the bearings and cam shafts. Thanks audi!!

Another thing that you should add to the list in the future would be the cam follower stud conversion kit. This will help prevent stripping the threads on housing.

I thought about doing the stud conversion....I already stripped the lower one and I know a handful of people have done this conversion. IIRC, there are pros and cons right? Due to the length of the studs, its harder to remove the HPFP. I cant rem if this has to do with the pre 08 models with banjo bolt connection or something else. I maybe wrong about the model year reference hahah but I do know this has been talked about before.

The pump is no harder to remove if you have the banjo bolt. If you have the flex line, you would probably have to disconnect it to get the pump off.

ahh ok cool - lots of Ommegang flowing tonight after a great interview! hhaha there are cons w/the stud kit.....could have swornnnn I read something about it.

I am still interested either way in the kit.

I originally thought I was going to have to use a crows foot on the bottom nut, but a deep wall socket does fit. I have the banjo bolt and see no cons to the stud kit. I'm glad I did it. It's been on for around 20k miles and I have yet to see any issues.
