You know you drive an S4...right? Lol. Seems kind of useless on this type of vehicle, but I don't want to tell people how to spend their money.

or have it wrapped in matte black vinyl. I had that done to my hood after I got tired of looking at rock chips and it looked great. You can remove it easily and repaint if you want when you sell it.

Not saying it's a sin, brother. Just saying why spend all that money on a carbon fiber hood, when you can get yours repainted and throw a clear bra on it for a relatively cheaper price.

Trust this is helpful.
Am considering it for weight reduction, but if I do get it, it'll be painted brilliant red like the rest of the car.

It's a significant weight savings but I had a hell of a time matching the paint on my B5 so I'm not very inclined to do it on the B8 unless I have reason to paint the fenders too.

That looks pretty nice actually. Not knowing much about vinyl, can you polish/wax that..?

Well, mine was Quartz Grey, and I re-sprayed it Brilliant Red, so no issues for me. The problem with the clear coat on CF parts is that they yellow with age. And I can't say I'm a fan of the greenish tinge on CF.

it's satin black, you don't polish it but you have to stay on top of keeping it clean or it gets stained. I had it on for the drive to CA from WI and it got stained from bugs along the way. I think there is a specific cleaner for vinyl and there is also I think a product from chemical guys to help protect the vinyl. I was going to have it redone and try and keep it cleaner going forward but my car was damaged [facepalm] and I ended up having the hood resprayed. I liked it a lot, some people did not. I may do it again...

I was thinking something along the lines of doing my hood and roof a high gloss black to compliment quartz grey / carbon fibers parts

I have been considering this same path for the same reasoning and found the OSIR hood. I was looking at CF because I already did the mirrors and the front lip and will be getting rear diffuser as some point as well. I kind of like the vinyl flat wrap on the hood though. Do you have any other pics?

That OSIR hood is expensive but just 17lbs...

The thing about CF hoods is that:
1) they don't save all that much weight, on comparison, a lightweight battery and removing the spare tire amounts up to the weight savings
and
2) CF hoods get hot, then cold, then hot, then cold, and all that expansion/contraction causes stress fractures to accumulate pretty quickly, in that CF hoods look nice and fresh for about a few months, and then you are back to having something that doesn't look all that nice.
not saying they don't have their place, imo they should be done long after other significant weight reduction means have taken place (removal of stock interior, removal of spare, LW battery, AC removal, etc.)

Although it's true that removing spare tires and others will lose comparable weight, it's the weight in the front area that gets lighter, which is good for our cars, as it's front heavy.
I'm very curious how the driving dynamics change....

50 pounds. S4 hood
Thanks. Removing 32.4lbs of sprung weight is not worth $2400 IMO

I would bet it would be not a significant, or even noticeable change. it's 50lbs stretched over a large part of the car, it's not like there is a 50lb cannon ball hanging in the front of the engine bay.
