So i was going onto an exit ramp ready to accelerate, naturally i floor it cause it is fun. However when i did that (was in d mode) the car downshifts then the tachometer buries itself to redline at 8k+ but the engine didn't sound like it reved that high. I then let off and did it again and it did the same thing..
later after i got done eating lunch i did the same thing and it downshifted just find and got up and went...
what the heck just happened?? i don't think anything was slipping?? do these cars computers have more control over the car then i think they have? and why would it bury the tach and the engine speed not correlate with it?

These cars have a rev limiter that limits rpms to 7200 rpms on the 6MT and less then that on the DSGs. IF you actually did see 8000 rpms, you have a problem.

Yeah but the engine didn't make a sound like it was going past 8k it just downshifted i floored it and it was starting to get in gear and the tach just buried itself and the car didn't move really fast i then immediately let off because it buried the needle.

I've had a couple of glitches where I would floor it and the car revs real high and doesn't go anywhere. Sometimes the DSG is quirky I think, you can catch it changing gears and it gets confused. I also think it does it more in higher temps.

The tach on my car reads 950 rpms at idle. When connected to the vag com, it reads the rpms at around 750. Not a big enough issue for me to investigate it further.
