Hey guys!
My buddy had my V1 for about a month and a half when he was using it for a road trip. I just got it back from him today and I haven't had it back from him since I got my S4 and it seems to be set off by the Side Assist.
I just drove it in the dealership area that is pretty congested with business and such so I haven't really tested it but do any of you have experience with it?
I really hope it's the area I'm in and not the side assist [headbang]
Thanks in advance!

Yes it does. Do a search, much about it here. I think there is an update everyone talks about that will help significantly.

Turning off the POP mode will eliminate the false alerts. See the instructions on how to program the V1 at the Valentine website (http://www.valentine1.com/Lab/TechReport3.asp).
Here's a video that demonstrates the Audi's Side Assist feature affects all owners of the V1. Anyway, disable the POP mode and your V1 will be be good to go!

This will work a little bit. I noticed that with POP off the V1 will not trigger while driving with nobody around but when my side assist is triggered by a vehicle the V1 will stay active at a low level like 3 or 4 lights. It will stay on until i reset it. I plan on sending it in for the update but its $199 to update my unit. Let me know what you discover. What version software are you running?

Just checked my serial number and got the following report:
STATUS REPORT ON YOUR
Serial Number 246xxxxxxx
V1 Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.85 w/ESP
Comment: This is our latest and best performer on both radar and laser, equipped with crystal-controlled frequency tuning, Traffic Monitor Filter and Extended Serial Protocol (ESP), but more recent software improvements described below add significantly to capability.
Upgrade Recommendation: You already have our best performer on radar and laser, enhanced by crystal-controlled frequency tuning. More recent V1s, however, have Junk-K Fighter to eliminate false alarms caused by lane-change warning systems in some newer cars. You'll also get Improved Euro Mode with K coverage extended to the lower frequencies now in use in other countries.
Here is the current proposed upgrade path:
UPGRADE PROPOSAL FOR YOUR
Serial Number 246xxxxxxx
Our upgrade to V1.85 w/ESP with Improved Euro Mode and Junk-K Fighter will produce the following benefits:
Junk-K Fighter blocks false alarms caused by K-band lane-change warning systems in some newer cars
Improved Euro Mode, now with K-band coverage expanded to include the lower-frequency photo radar devices in use in other countries. For specific frequency details, click here.
* One-year limited warranty, same as new units, starting at upgrade date.
*-- Upgrade to V1.85 w/ESP, Improved Euro Mode and Junk-K Fighter activated: As soon as we receive your old unit (in operable condition with no tampering of the serial number) we'll install revised firmware, then return it to you in the shortest possible time with a new serial number to indicate its revised capability.
PRICE: $79 plus shipping
I haven't noticed any false alarms from other cars, but may consider updating my V1 if additional enhancements are introduced by Valentine.

Definitely turn off POP (option "J"). In 95% of the USA you can also safely turn off X Band (option "1")- it's almost never used anymore. That eliminates a lot of false alerts in shopping centers and populated areas.
I have both a 1.8 and 1.85 w/ ESP and both rarely false with these settings.

all ik now is my V1 is nearly always going off (I only use it on the highway) but I also know how to read the signs so to speak and find it indispensable. When the Ka goes off and usually well in advance of any other detector i've used, I know. The K band is always going off when cars approach my rear and for some semi's but whether I have the side assist on or not doesn't seem to matter. I am def. going to turn POP and see how that goes but I wonder willl that completely eliminate function of the K Band? Because I've found state troopers to use K band at times and Ka at others.

One other thing that can cause false alarms, is "SpeedInfo", which is a traffic flow-measuring system installed along US highways near large cities. Depending on what vintage of V1 you have, the Traffic Monitor Filter (TMF) may or may not be installed or activated. Having it makes a huge difference if SpeedInfo is used in your area. Here's some worthwhile reading about TMF from the Valentine website:

Mine is the most up to date one.
I tried shutting off pop. It worked until I got in the congested Minneapolis area and it went off like crazy. So now I just shut off K and X bands but kept POP on.
I don't think I have ever seen a cop use K or X in Minnesota. Maybe you guys can weigh in
EDIT:
Missed the proposed upgrade portion
I need to just bite the bullet and send it in to get Junk-K Fighter, Improved Monitor Filter and Improved Euro Mode.
Anyone have this update done and can verify this will fix the issue?

The newer B8.5's (2014+, not 2013) have changed the rear sensor frequency. My V1 is pretty old and I found that disabling K band from the rear solved the issue. Disabling only POP didn't work for me.

Be careful because K is still pretty commonly used. X is rarely used though.
Here is a great source to see what types of radar are used in your area.

yup I'd be careful. I'd leave both on if you live in the Northeast. Massachusetts LEO's love to use K band. Also cops in NJ are very sneaky and use all bands, even X...
