Hi All,
My A4 has been down on power slightly for a while now and also started dumping black smoke so decided to strip it to pieces.
I believe the cause of the smoking was due to a split in the pipe that links the EGR cooler to the EGR valve. Ill get one ordered and see how we go
I was checking my turbo for play and there was no axial play but slight radial play. I've seen people mention sticking variable vanes so decided to split the exhaust housing from the turbo whilst it was off the car. I found the variable vanes to free and not much carbon deposits inside which was good however the turbine blade has taken a hit from something. I've checked the blades and housing on the compressor side and they look almost new.
Any ideas what may have caused the damage to my turbine blades??? Also would people recommend I change the turbo?
The damage looks very very similar to the one shown below

Any help is greatly appreciated.
