Hey all,
I thought my wipers were taking a bit long to activate in auto, so I went and took a look and saw something in the sensor. I've attached an image. Does anybody know for sure whether this would affect the auto performance?
I understand how an auto rain sensor works, so I could see how this would reduce its effectiveness. Looking at it, it kinda looks like crinkled cellophane.
Any ideas?

Looks like the pad itself was not [wrench] properly or used over from the previous windshield[confused]

bet a good auto glass shop could reset that for you for a lot less than the dealer.

You could probably call SafeLite or someone and have the repair it or tell you how to fix it. I've had good experiences with them in the past.

The pad is like a 7 dollar item and takes 5 minutes to [wrench].

Oh that's a relief. Any idea how to get it down, and whether I would need to order a new part? Or just fix the existing one.
Thanks.

The mirror[wrench] twists off. Once the mirror is off.The rain sensor itself is held in with a circular type clip. Get a small flat screw driver and release one of the psi fingers and the others will come loose. Pull the sensor itself down and the gel pak can be easily removed. Do not disconnect the electrical connection to the sensor or you will mite need a vag.com to reset it. Reverse steps of installation. Make sure you line up the rearview mirror with the 3 fingers to the ring on the glass
I would order a new part from the dealer. the aftermarket gelpaks are not made from the same material

Whoa. I had no idea that that adhesive was replaceable. My rain sensing wipers sometimes have a really long delay thats super aggravating. Might order up one of these and try replacing it. Having to cycle the sensitivity switch just to get them to work sometimes while its clearly raining is super annoying, and my old b7 had perfectly working rain sensing wipers so I figured something had to be up with mine.

Anyone know the part number for the gel? The guy at the service department had no idea what I was talking about. [>_>]
