Comparison

Finally i've come up with a good comparison between BMW and Audi. This has prolly been done before but i just wanna know. E36 M3 or B5 S4? I never thought of it before because i didnt think the M3 had [hail] 240hp. so which would u guys take if u had a choice, and price was an issue.

I did have a choice.....I live in Colorado, so I chose the S4.

Now, how about the B6 S4 vs E46 M3??? [cool]

considering u can get a 95 m3 for 12 grand, it really makes it a hard decision.

Since I've been chipped I've destroyed several E36 M3s like they were 318tis. Plus the S4 has 25 years of quattro going for it! Not to mention 2 more doors, more room, & comparible (if not cheaper) pricing.

EDIT: that's similar pricing assuming the MY is the same. obviously a 95 will be way less than a 2k.

^exactly. i considered an E36 M3 before I got my S. The vast majority of the ones i had seen of comparable age & mileage were more than a similar S4.

sorry guys im just in denial cuz i cant afford a S4. I'm hoping my dad will let me get an M3. cuz he says i have to get a 4 door so insurance is low.

Umm. I love BMWs in general (well used to before Van Hoydonk and Bangle) and Ms in particular.
Unfortunately, the US-spec E36 m3 is basically a glorified 325is. It has more in common with the 325 than it does the Euro-spec E36 M3 (320) hp I believe).

Guess Im biased here and took the only vote for the M3. I can honestly tell you that when my lease was getting up on my M3 I took out a B5 S4 4 times (yes, 4 times) to see if I wanted to get into it after my M3. I ended up not feeling the same connected enthusiasm as the M so I bought it out of lease. I love my m3 and for what its worth, even though its 2 door, it has more room in the rear than the 4dr B5. No turbo worries and its modifiable as hell. Plus the E36 design was one of the best. Ok Im done.

M3, definitely. I know, it's an audi forum, but the e36 M3 is pretty much the epitome of a performance tuner. The S52 engine is bulletproof, and it's just so classic and badass. granted, the B5S4 is awesome as well, but I think the M takes the edge on this one.

I had a choice 05 S4/05 M3. I choose the S4 avant, I love the way they look modded, you dont see a lot of them. It felt as bit classier, then the M3. BMW's always feel a bit hungry to me.

Quattro and cargo space make it for me... i need both for my lifestyle right now.

once i get stationed somewhere dry and snow/ice free, with no family, i'll move to the dark side.
